General comments/suggestions on lectures:
2. I think the examples that are done during the lecture really help me understand the material that we are talking about that day. I also really like the clicker questions. And, there can never be too many demonstrations.
3. I loved EF even though it was difficult. It has been worth it! You guys are hilarious, and you have great presentation skills.
4. I really like the tag team teacher style.
5. Loved lectures, Professors Schleter and Bennett did a great job of breaking down the material making it easy to understand.
6. The lectures are good, but very fast.
8. The EF lectures were truely the best lectures out of the classes that I took this semester.
9. Powerpoint Presentaions are not effective in terms of teaching.
10. Both professors were great, made the material easy to understand, and kept it interesting.
11. Keep up the good work! the lectures are fun and interesting!
12. I thought the lectures were really good--the professors seemed enthusiastic and the more fun examples made the class more interesting and easier to stay focused. Plus, it was very helpful to see each example from the lecture notes worked out methodically, from start to finish and have the notes in front of us.
13. The lectures were really enjoyable. It helped me get into physics.
14. I loved all the hands on examples. They demonstrated the concepts really well, and kept us alert.
15. The lectures were very good. They were informative but left room for the homework to be thought about which heaped me a lot.
16. Time is the only issue.
17. Nothing wrong. Perfect and entertaining
18. class size is far too big to fully understand the material
19. None
20. They were alright overall, could use some work though.
21. Lectures were truly a learning experience from in class examples and the relation to recitation and homework.
22. The lectures should be more focused for students who haven't had any physics courses.
23. Both were great! very entertaining, interactive, and fun!
24. Try not to cram everything in at the last minute. Several important concepts were not as well reinforced because of time constraints.
25. Some of the homework problems were much harder than the example problems.
26. Less time wasted at the beginning of and throughout the hour talking. Get into the material.
27. good pace, and the jokes help keep you awake and alert.
28. lectures were fun and entertaining as well as informative. I liked how they showed real life applications with what we were learning.
29. Lectures are entertaining and also helped me learn.
31. I enjoyed the examples they did with physical objects.
34. none
35. Try to explain new concepts a little bit more
36. Very Entertaining
37. more examples
38. the problems in lecture were good. But a lot of the time the problems were very different from the homework and didn't help.
40. They have great banter.
41. Great very interesting
42. The lectures were very beneficial.
44. I thought the lectures were good
45. Good examples
48. Fun and informative
49. Keep the humor in the lectures
51. Lectures were overall pretty well run. As long as you do the homework, lectures will make sense.
55. Good lectures. I just wish they had done more examples that were more in depth and more like the homework problems.
56. Both are good instructors
57. Focus on presenting the example better. The clarity of drawing it on the screen is poor.
58. They were pretty good.
59. Love having them both here.
60. Need to go over things more thoroughly for people that haven't had physics before.
61. None
63. Schleter is funnier
64. none
65. useless in comparison to the homework
67. They are very engaging instructors.
69. I believe the lectures are done very well.
71. Super job!
72. Lectures were really good overall, maybe just slow the pace down some.
74. Great Instructors. Very helpful and good class.
76. nope I really enjoyed them.
77. More Examples!
78. helpful
79. I really enjoyed the lectures. I cannot even think of any suggestions. This lecture was run very smoothly and effeciently. It was also enjoyable and at times, funny,.
80. Great funny lectures. Really helped understand the materisl
81. lighting was bad sometimes
82. Keep doing the cheesy jokes and ut clicker questions.
83. the lectures were very informational and the professors kept it interesting
84. Excellent approach to problem solving. I found this class very exciting.
86. Slow down some. There were some homework problems that were not covered well in lecture.
87. n/a
88. ya'll did well catching each others mistakes quickly.
89. Make sure to have time to work out all of the problems during the lecture and maybe do a few more homework examples.
90. well done
91. It would help if notes were given out earlier. The one thing bad about this class is that you had to wait on the next lecture to do the next homework. Having to put the homework off when I had time to do it killed me. I had to wait to learn it and then stay up all night doing it.
92. The examples didn't really help when working on homework so maybe make them more similar to the homework problems.
93. The lecture is the best when it is you two not anyone else nor just one of you.
95. They are very lively and entertaining. Teach very well also.
96. They made the class fun to go to.
97. Material was presented in a fun and interesting way.
98. Lectures are well put together and having them videoed is a big bonus. My only criticism is that I found some HW problems to be beyond the material covered in lecture.
99. The lectures were very informative sometimes I wish they would have been longer so that we could go over more material.
100. At times during lecture there are times when sometimes it is hard to catch on to the concepts. For instance, going over torque. Have a better way of explaining torque.
101. I enjoy the lectures. They are very lively and keep my attention.
103. I really enjoyed lecture
104. I thought lectures were really good. Both teachers did a good job of making it as fun as possible with a huge class.
105. Lectures are very good and entertaining. However, I didn't like when one proffessor wasn't there, and there was a fill in. I feel like it was always very scrambled and unorganized. I also tended to not understant those sections.
106. learn how to use the pen better when writing notes on the big screen
107. It was hard for me to understand what was going on in some of the lectures when I had to figure out what numbers to plug into equations instead of them showing us and explaining it more fully.
108. I think this class overall is done very well. I really can't think of a way to make the lectures any better. From a students view I guess I could see where it would be beneficial to have more examples in class that resemble more of what the homework looks like.
109. Don't skip as many steps on the harder problems.
110. Lectures were awesome and my favorite part of the course.
111. i loved this class!!
112. Do not rotate multiple times during lecture. Have one do one every other day.
114. favorite class despite the long nights.
115. I think both professors do a great job with lecture. They do a great job of making the material interesting. I really think they have mastered the two-teacher strategy.
116. None.
117. You all explained many things very well.
119. You all helped me stay engaged in the lecture and presented the material well
120. They're pretty funny sometimes, and are very informative, although completely useless to an aspiring computer engineering. I understand why a mechanical engineer would need this material, for sure, but for computer engineering? It just seems a bit pointless.
121. Both Prof. Schleter and Dr. Bennett made EF lecture a fun environment. The lectures were not boring so it was easy to learn and pay attention. Overall, the lectures were beneficial and successful.
122. It was sometime confusing when the professors would write down an equation and then immediately place numbers into the equation without explaining some of the variables.
123. They were very helpful
125. Very informative, sometimes weren't thorough enough on concepts.
126. i enjoyed the lectures.
128. Overall, lectures taught the material in a clear way. The examples were always helpful, except sometimes the homework had questions that didn't have examples from class to look at.
129. My favorite class by far.
131. On occasion, the lectures did proceed perhaps too quickly, though this was mainly due to time constraints. Aside from that, the lectures were extremely beneficial to understanding the material.
132. Normally pretty good. from time to time it was confusing but thats part of learning the material and i understand that.
134. keep doing what you are doing
135. Lectures have gone very well this year. The pace is very good and so are the professors.
138. No comment.
139. I think it presents the information well, and it is a good format for class.
140. I really enjoyed the lectures. Prof. Schleter and Dr. Bennett made it pretty fun and i loved the demonstrations.
141. Do more problems, and explain the plugging in of them, i know its simple algebra but its hard to follow sometimes
143. instead of showing an equation and saying hey this is how we work it. showing how to get the equation is must more effective.
144. lectures were instructive and helpful, and some of them were even kind of fun. the demonstrations were a good way to help visualize the material. i really learned a lot in this class and was impressed with the professors' abilities to teach such a large class.
145. It's perfectly fine
146. Overall the lectures were very good, however a problem I noticed is that while a lot of general problems are covered, many specific ones are not. I know we are supposed to think and problem solve, but I have spent many hours on a single problem before, all because of a simple arbitrary difference between it and the lecture example that no one mentioned and is highly unlikely for one to simple know it. So this could be frustrating. Otherwise, the lectures were good.
148. I enjoyed them.
149. Pretty fun. Tedious problem solving could be more interactive for those of us who are slightly ADD.
150. GOOD CLASS.
151. Lectures are somewhat boring but full of information. It is to one's own benefit to attend them.
153. N/A
154. More time would be nice if that can be arranged.
156. lecture examples were not nearly as complicated as homework problems
158. overall, i learned a lot in this class and they were very good at presenting the material.
160. Schleter and Bennett both did a great job keeping the lectures both fun and engaging. They always explained things well and are excited about teaching the class. I always looked forward to EF lecture.
162. I had a very tough high school teacher that I did not understand, but these professors helped me through physics and made it fun.
163. The lectures started out strong at the beginning of the semester, however by the second module and onward the lectures oversimplified the material (or perhaps the exams and homework overcomplicated the material) and so there was no longer a match-up between what we did in lecture and what was required on the homework and exams. Some ability to extend the lecture material is expected, however, definitely not to the extent that was required on the homework. Some homework assignments had NO connection whatsoever to what was presented in lecture. I know that I am not the only one who came to recitation the next day and was completely confused on how the homework connected to lecture. Very disappointing, and the disconnect needs to be addressed.
165. very good. fill the time and are very interesting
167. Lectures are always a fun experience. It's great to be taught the information by professors who clearly know what they're talking about and enjoy sharing their knowledge with students, even when the subject matter gets a bit dry.
169. This class was very well organized and put together. I really enjoyed it.
171. n/a
173. Aside from the occational technical hiccup, everything was fine in the teaching of the class.
174. I did not like how during some lectures, we did not get to cover all of the material. And often, the material that we didn't get to go over was the material on the homework. It'd be nice if our lectures could be just a bit longer ... even 30 minutes .. i know it might not be possible, but it would help a lot.
175. Really great lecturers, that made class very good and effective.
176. Always managed to keep them intresting.
177. Work at least one harder problem in lecture, because when I get to the homework I struggle with figuring them out.
178. make them longer! this was definitely my favorite class this semester, they are both such good teachers and so interactive i dont see hoe you could miss a lecture
179. Both Professors do a great job making the material clear
180. The perfect mix of fun and learning!
181. I enjoyed lecture, however sometimes the professors went too quickly for me to follow.
182. I felt like I learned a great deal of the material needed for homework in the lectures. Only needed the book on a few occasions.
184. they were good, it wouldn't hurt to work more difficult problems
185. I wish it was possible to work more of the problems in depth, step by step, as opposed to showing the first part and then being given the answer. The trickiest part in solving many of the problems was in the middle, which ends up being skipped over. In the end though it's hard to fit everything in with time constraints.
186. Dr. Bennett and Professor Schleter worked very well together. Their banter and good humor kept people engaged and contributed to the effectiveness of their lessons. It was easy to see the lectures were well planned and thought out.
188. The examples given are too simple compared to the homework and exams.
190. The lectures need to be a little longer so that we aren't rushing at the end of the class period
191. The professors are really great lecturers and make the class fun. I really enjoy any visible display because it makes the material easier to understand. The clicker questions are a great idea because it keeps you involve during lecture.
192. None in particular.
193. n/a
195. The lectures are good. I just didn't like it when we would be out of time and we rushed to finish parts of lectures because I struggled on those parts on the homework.
197. They were very helpful in explaining what I couldn't understand on the homework.
198. None.
200. I like the tag team approach. I feel like some things could be explained more clearly though.
201. I felt like we were learning too much too fast. Also the homework was a lot harder than the examples during lecture.
202. Good Stuff
203. Great job of making them fun and interactive.
204. KEEP THINGS IN VARIABLE FORM FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. I had the hardest time following examples because values were plugged in as soon as possible, so it was impossible to see what we were doing while solving.
205. Some of the lectures did examples that we never did on homework or on tests. Also, some of the homeworks had problems that we have never worked out
206. Lectures were overall good however sometimes they were hard to follow. Especially when assumptions (like answers) were made as class time ran out.
207. I was never bored in their lectures.
208. The lectures were actually really enjoyable to me. I learned a lot. The speed was a little quick during some lectures because I have never taken physics before so I really had to play catch up. But by the end, they were great!
209. This has probably been my most enjoyable lecture.
210. IT is good as is. Good if you pay attention and are on time.
211. Using students to demonstrate usually wastes time
212. The lectures seem to consist primarily of the professors working example problems while the students observe. There is little to no actual teaching going on, and I feel like I gained (through lecture) virtually no conceptual understanding of the material presented.
213. i enjoy them
214. Promise that the "Very Good" ratings are not me just going through and clicking. I believe the lectures where excellently paced and delivered in a manner clear enough to apply to differing situations found in the Homework. Not sure if yall's jabbing at each other is in good fun or if you actually meant it though.....
216. I thought using the clickers during lectures were helpful because they helped me focus more on paying attention. They were unhelpful sometimes when I didn't have enough time to get a right answer. I also thought the lectures could have more problems similar to homework, especially on the last modules.
217. Made a good pair of teachers.
218. I learned a lot in the lectures, although a few times there were items on the homework that we had not covered in lecture, or had just skimmed over.
219. each recitation seemed to be recovery from the lack of effectiveness of the lectures, and Dr. Bennett's speech impediment, though not a severe one, was still very frustrating at times
220. They helped, but didn't always prepare me for the homework. Which I guess was the point.... so....
221. Sometimes rushed to finish covering material.
222. concepts explained with physical objects on stage were the most effective--just a tennis ball or a rod can go a long way
223. Very good besides clicker question malfunctions.
224. The only suggestion I have is that we should work harder example problems in lecture instead of easier ones.
226. The lectures were good. I understood the material and wasn't bored out of my mind.
227. Really love the class, literally didnt have to open the book once, and that made the class so much better! The discussion board is a massive help, overall loved the class.
228. maybe include different applications for the given formulas
229. n/a
230. Use lazy dog in every module, multiple times
231. Very easy to understand and learn from.
232. The last two modules were too fast in my opinion.
233. you guys are amazing.
234. none
235. Best lecture I have had so far in college, never dull and always interesting!
237. I have learned a lot, but the lectures move quite fast and they do not cover problems on the level of the ones assigned for homework.
239. Love the tag team.
241. I do not like Dr.White's lecturing techniques as well.
242. They were very comedic! Keep it up!
243. Very good and interesting. Every once in a while they should do a very hard homework problem on the lectures though,
244. N/A
245. I really like the way the class is structured. I learned alot from the professors.
246. I think that you did a GREAT Job
247. Love demos!
249. n/a
250. Lectures were effective, but the majority of learning seemed to occur at recitation.
253. Harder questions during lecture.
254. very entertaining and informative
256. Loved it
257. more examples demonstrating the variety of applications each lesson covered
258. N/A
259. Very fast. sped through the lectures.
260. The back and forth way that prof. Schleter and prof. Bennett present the material while making it entertaining really drew me in and had me paying more attention than I normally would have.
262. During lectures, demonstrate how to approach the homework problems.
264. Oftentimes seemed to go a little fast to learn anything at lecture. More often than not (especially in the last two modules) I would just copy down all the problems and stuff while in the lecture, then decipher it later...
265. Sometimes covered a few slides way too fast.
266. lectures were a little drawn out. I believe more time should be spent talking about specific problems that could apear on HW.
267. none
268. Lectures were very good. They were as interesting as could be with physics, and the material was presented very well.
269. Overall, the lectures keep me interested and cover the material very effectively.
271. Overall a very good, engaging lecture with many examples. Practice using the clicker program.
274. There is much material to cover in a small amount of time. The more complicated pieces of the class were hard to try to learn on my own.
275. Very good job. I learned a lot
276. It was never boring. They like to entertain and teach at the same time and I personally think Bennett and Schleter have great chemistry when teaching together.
277. Maybe go a little mor in depth about simultaneous equations
279. One of the best learning environments I have ever been in for any class. Loved everyhting about how the class was taought and graded. Hard not to learn alot from these teachers. Great all around class and teachers.
280. Dr. Bennet is an amazing proffesor
281. Lectures were very clear and both Schleter and Bennett were very easy to understand and explained the material very well
282. The lectures are well-choreographed to help students learn.
283. the lectures were good but maybe use more examples in lectures
285. Uhhh!
286. Enjoyed lectures. Bennett and Schleter made it interesting and informative.
287. I thoroughly enjoyed the "Abbot and Costello"-ness of the lectures.
289. Overall, it was really good lectures, I love the way both of you teach together, filling in for one another and taking playful jabs at one another. This class was my favorite class of the semester.
290. I learned a lot in the lectures and enjoyed them while I was at them. THe notes from lecture helped a lot on the homework as well.
291. I love going to EF lectures! (: Dr. Bennett and Prof. Schleter are so much fun and always keep class interesting while effectively teaching us the material. For a field of study that requires a lot of work, it is great to have professors who teach well and are motivating. I wish they were both teaching EF 152 next semester.
293. Lectures moved too fast. I feel there was a lot left uncovered when it came time for the homework. More thorough examples would be extremely helpful.
294. THey were good at helping with homework
296. they both did a good job of making a huge class seem not as big
297. Very well done, showing physical examples of what we were studying in action was helpful, and the clickers helped give immediate feedback on whether or not we were understanding the material.
298. Lectures were good overall a little fast paced though. I understand there is a lot of material to be covered in a short amount of time, but it would be better to spend more time and go into further detail in one or two examples on some of the harder and longer problems instead of using more to explain the idea. The visual demonstrations helped a lot.
299. I love how we are learning and it is fun at the same time!
300. Occasionally (in the beginning) it seemed as if the professors assumed all students had been exposed to physics in high school. I was entirely new to physics. I was often confused initially because there seemed to be bits of missing information that were never even mentioned. This made asking questions difficult, because I was unaware of exactly what I was missing.
301. The lectures were great. They kept me interested and taught me everything I needed to know. I never looked at the book once.
302. more writing space in notes
304. None
305. The only problems with the lectures arose during the homework, but the professors were very effective at clearing up any problems we had.
306. none
308. Relate a little more to homework problems during lecture
310. Pretty enjoyable class. Sometimes went to fast
311. Very good. You go at a slow enough pace for everyone to follow along. Your examples are good also.
312. They definitely kept the lectures entertaining which is important to me.
313. The girl substitute was mediocre.
315. i like how the professors involve the students.
316. Lectures were good. I am glad that the class lectures are led by two professors and not one. Together, they make it more interesting and fun.
317. The lectures were very helpful. I liked how we had a copy of the power point and that the lectures were available online.
318. I liked both of you! The only part i did not like is that the homework and the notes do not run hand in hand. I cannot figure the homework out with just my notes.
319. I love your enthusiasm and ideas of how you teach the modules.
320. everything is great!
322. none
323. engineering is ballin
324. none
326. Good. They weren't boring at all. I like all the examples.
329. Slow down.
331. Learned a lot in lectures. Only suggestion is show more difficult problems to help students be able to see how to do a problem.
332. Great class
334. Lectures were very interesting, and it was easy to pay attention because of the humor and visual aids.

General comments/suggestions on recitations:
2. I would have liked more time to go over the material for that day instead of just doing a few problems.
3. I loved Houston. He loved teaching us, and was enthusiastic. Frances was rude every time I spoke to her, but maybe that's just because I see her at 8 am. I also think she can be a distraction when she just drops in on classes and speaks out randomly.
4. The team projects were pretty fun.
5. Geoff was the best GTA ever! He was fun but was able to help us with any questions when needed.
6. The recitations were very helpful in understanding materials.
8. I thought that the recitations were good. They really helped me out when I didn't understand the material.
9. More helpful than lectures.
10. Great time to ask questions, Houston (TA) knew what he was talking about, helped out a lot.
11. None
12. My TA was awesome and really good at explaining the problems we worked in recitation, but I found the recitations that were more concept question based or group demonstration to be less effective than the ones where we had to build things or work problems ourselves because it was easy to let the TA do all the work and not think problems all the way through ourselves.
13. The recitations also helped me really get into physics. They were fun and gave an easy way to learn physics without feeling like you're slaving over notes, etc.
14. I thought that they were really well done. I especially liked that we switched groups every module.
15. Recitations helped me the most. It helped me understand physics more than the lectures and ask more in depth questions.
16. nope.
17. Perfect again
18. I love being down in the workshop
19. None
20. They were good overall, but they need more questions that are relevant to the tests.
22. I feel like recitation should be focused on approaching different types of physics problems and teaching different strategies on how to solve them.
23. I had a great TA. He was very knowledgeable and personable with students.
24. Very fun.
25. It would have been helpful of we had went over more homework problems in recitation.
26. He couldn't really answer my questions and that was frustrating.
27. they were very much needed in order to learn the new material
28. I was never able to learn the material from the recitations, It wasn't that i didn't understand it there but it just wasn't working for me is all
29. Some recitations were a little more helpful than others, lectures definitely are more effective.
30. Do more project work in class
31. Geoff goes a little fast sometimes but I really enjoy his teaching.
33. Unorganized.
34. none
35. I liked the hands-on stuff
36. Good, occasionally felt dragged out though.
37. beter TA's
38. good. but maybe have some relate more towards the homework.
41. Great Houston rocks
42. They made learning easier.
43. N/A
44. Todd was a great teacher. Although, I think recitations should have taken more time to discuss material learned and review that rather than focus completely on projects.
45. Houston was very good at answering questions and Frances did a great job of helping with our project.
49. All good
51. Many recitations were boring. They could be made more exciting.
52. None
55. Usually a little too slow.
56. They are kinda useless to understanding material
57. They help relate to the real world but are otherwise useless.
58. They were pretty good, but sometimes I felt they were pointless.
59. pretty good overall.
60. Houston is great.
61. None
63. Francis was great in est 13
64. none
65. nothing
66. Chris is great! However, we seem to go off track sometimes during class.
67. Not always that engaging or interesting.
69. recitation honestly seems a little boring. My TA is great and when the practice exam problems come i find it very helpful but the rest of the time it seems like a waste of time.
71. Just terrific!
72. Recitations were not very helpful with learning the material, it seemed they were somewhat different than the material in class
74. good
75. none
76. more organized.
77. n/a
78. They helped me apply and understand the material. My TA was good at explaining the material when we had questions.
79. My TA was excellent. She was fun and always willing to help. Recitations were productive and effective. Each helped with my test performance. Frances was willing to go over the top when helping us with the rube goldberg project.
80. Recitaations were good in helping me understand how physics works
81. fun
82. I was in the first reciation of the day, so I found myself correcting the TA often.
83. make the TA enthusiastic
86. Geoff did an exceptional job with answering homework questions. He was also a great help other classes, like Cal 3. In addition Geoff used comedy to make recitation enjoyable everyday.
87. n/a
89. Give more heads up on incoming team projects, but besides that I have no complains. My TA was great.
90. i would have liked to have seen more help on the homework problems, but we usually just jumped straight to the recitation material.
91. I feel like it should be more about what we're covering and what we have trouble with instead of doing a lot of projects.
93. The TA should know the material a lot better than he did sometimes.
95. I love my TA.
96. Recitations helped clear up any questions.
97. Some recitations were helpful, others were not.
98. n/a
99. It was a good class just too early in the morning that the class was not always the most responsive that early in the day.
100. Sometimes, I felt that recitation was not that interesting. At times some of the questions had long paragraphs, which I did not see why we were doing that.
101. Recitations are also very lively and enjoyable to go to.
103. I like recitation
104. Recitation helped me understand the concepts better because of the smaller setting, so I really liked it.
105. I feel like recitations sometimes confuse me more than help me. Make sure the TA's really explain each concept before they start working on the actual assignment.
106. thanks for the help
107. none
108. I don't really see a benefit in having recitation twice a week. I feel most of the time we just work some problems of read through how to do some easy examples. This would be a better use of time if it was used for direct questions on what we do not understand or problems we dont understand in the homework. Or at least be able to have some Q and A once a week and keep the recitation the same for the other day.
109. Very good, fun, learning environment.
110. I did not find these as effective as they should have been, and did not think that they were all necessary
111. great!
112. More in depth on the material.
114. projects were kind of fun
115. My TA truly knew the material but he seemed to assume we knew more than we did. I didn't have physics in high school so some of this stuff was a lot harder for me. Good teacher, but he assumed we knew stuff we didn't know.
116. Recitation seemed somewhat pointless to me. I did not learn anything and it was only very loosely based on lecture. I think recitation should be more about understanding the concepts and working more problems similar to the homework and tests. Recitation was fun, but I did not learn from it.
118. liked it
119. N/A
120. Todd=truth.
121. Recitation was a great way to apply what we learned in lecture to "real world" scenarios.
122. It would be helpful to provide more time for homework help.
123. Shorten recitation
125. Helpful, seemed like TA should have been able to help students more with their questions about concepts.
126. Todd was a great recitation TA!!
127. I feel like a lot of the time we did not have enough time to get it thoroughly explained to us
128. Recitations were always pretty helpful. It would be nice to sometimes be able to ask questions on homework during recitation.
129. Frances is not an inviting person with rather negative comments on most subjects.
131. Recitations may have been more effective if more emphasis was placed on purely conceptual examples and applications, rather than an assortment of problems related to the material.
132. Houston was excellent.
134. no comment
135. Recitations usually helped to clear up any questions from lecture. My TA was very helpful and also helped outside of class with help sessions.
138. Group members can make or break a recitation. If you're grouped with people who won't cooperate it makes things difficult for everyone.
139. Good to break into small groups. I also love having a built in reveiw session.
140. I wish we had more time on the other projects.
141. Kinda boring
143. i have none
144. recitations were very helpful. patrick did a great job as my TA, and recitation helped me understand some of the things i might not have understood in the lecture.
145. Maybe try to have a recitation for every topic. Some topics weren't covered because of timing or a project.
146. Frances ran Estabrook 13 with an iron fist, but she got things done and kept people safe. I can respect the take-no-prisoners approach.

Recitation never did much for me. The projects were fun and often instructive, but on a regular basis and I never gleaned much from the recitation. I don't know if this was due to the TA or the set up.
149. Recitations were incredibly helpful and interactive.
151. Recitations are more hands on about what was taught in lecture and makes it easier to grasp the ef concepts.
152. The recitations are very helpful. If anything is shady, Patrick clears it up.
153. N/A
154. All of the modules don't get covered proportionally.
156. recitations were very helpful
158. I liked that we used real life things to see how it relates.
159. nope.jpg
160. I really liked the hands on examples and experiments that correlated with what we were learning in lecture.
162. Helped out because more one on one time.
163. VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT REQUIRE STUDENTS TO WEIGH THEMSELVES AND SHARE THAT WEIGHT WITH GROUP MEMBERS. For one of the center of mass exercises we needed to do this, and perhaps as a woman, I am particularly sensitive to this issue, but no one besides me and my doctor should need to know my weight. I do not think you fully grasp the extent to which people struggle with their weight, and having to share that even among a small group of students? Not acceptable.

Overall I felt as though the projects in recitation were totally geared towards the guys. I'm not sure how this could be improved, but I think you are doing a disservice to young freshman girls who are trying to break into a male-dominated field, with having so many recitation exercises geared towards the guys. In fact, a lot of the terminology thrown around, related to cars and tools and things, I was not familiar with in the slightest. Not everyone coming in to the class has that sort of background knowledge. Just a recent example- a flywheel?!? Never heard of it. Also, all those tools in the woodshop of Eastbrook, good thing I was in a group with guys, because I don't know the first thing about construction.

ALSO THE TIMING OF THE FINAL PROJECT: Unbelievable and cruel and poor management. The information about the final project wasn't posted until Friday, which meant that we could not discuss meeting with our group until the following Tuesday, exactly one week before leaving for Thanksgiving break. During that week leading up to Thanksgiving, I had four exams, two quizzes, numerous homework sets, and two OTHER major group projects. I had carefully budgeted my time, and I did not have time to work on yet another group project. What should have been done? The information about that project should have been posted at the very beginning of the module four, so that we could schedule meetings and get things rolling, without trying to cram it all in. I understand that you probably believe a lot of students would have procrastinated anyway- well then, that would be THEIR problem. And perhaps, a lot of the students in the class did not have quite the course load that I had this semester- but you can't assume that, and for someone like me, it was pretty near to impossible to find anytime to work on the project, which meant we were throwing something together last minute the Monday before the project was due.
164. none
165. some things seemed a little drawn out on the explanations
167. My interaction with Frances was limited, but on the few occasions that we spoke, she was very upbeat and got a laugh out of me. I appreciated all the behind-the-scenes work she did to make recitation possible, and her oversight of Estabrook 13 during the final project was great.
169. Also very well organized, i loved it.
170. little more descriptive on some of the earlier team projects
173. More hands on examples, it really helps to do rather than simply learn about something
175. It helped alot on understanding what we heard in lecture
178. maybe more time for questions about homework
180. Patrick was my TA. I would just like to say that he was awesome. He presented the material effectively, he encouraged us to think for ourselves, and he was willing to put in extra time and effort to help us learn. Plus, he is funny. I would not be passing this class if it were not for those recitations. Thanks, Patrick.
181. I really liked recitation. It helped me grasp the material more effectively.
182. More overview of the homework.
183. Very helpful
184. I really liked doing hands on stuff. Seeing the material applied was cool.
185. Recitation was different than I expected and I enjoyed it. The learning atmosphere as opposed to a "I'm headed to lab" sort of feeling was relieving. Over all, great experience.
188. The projects are generally useless and show nothing useful. Also, when giving an assignment to roll a marble down a tube, please make sure the tube is big enough for the marble to roll.
190. A few more hands on things besides the team projects would be useful
191. Sometimes, the recitation felt pointless and sometimes it was very beneficial.
192. None in particular
193. n/a
195. Chris was very nice. I just had trouble obtaining help in the class because of all the other things going on in it. I liked it though.
197. It was helpful to work in a group of students who had the same troubles as I did and we could solve problems together to better understand the material.
198. More of a focus on problems similar to homework and tests and less on models and project like things would have been more beneficial for me.
200. Recitations are fun and interesting, a great way to review the material and clarify meanings.
201. I really enjoyed the hands-on projects in recitation. I learn best with hands-on learning.
202. Nothing
203. Too much was given to us at first.
204. .
205. They were a good way to better understand the concepts
207. Encourage students to ask questions
208. I liked the hands on/experimental recitations a lot. To see how the things we learned actually worked was awesome.
209. Geoff is the man.
210. TA could be more sure on the things they are teaching us.
211. none
212. The recitations are supposedly smaller classes where students can ask questions and receive instruction, but the entire time periods of recitation seemed to be allotted to merely reviewing what was already said in lecture. I would prefer most of the recitation time slot be left open for the students to ask questions to the TA and receive personal instruction on things they do not understand.
213. im not too crazy about my TA
216. The recitatiosns helped me with the problems on the homework because the reciation problems had similar elements.
217. More review on problems.
218. These sometimes felt like a waste of time, or lasted a little long.
I did enjoy the opportunity to work in small groups, to do more practice problems, and to do real-world application of the lessons learned.
219. very well done and the interactive aspect added interest
220. They were fun, and informative, but it would be nice to have some time specifically for Q/A about homework. Too, I missed a couple of group project grades, which I completed because I forgot about the online form.... honestly, I felt a bit cheated about that.
221. Recitations help more than lectures.
222. Patrick was always very open to questions and willing to explain concepts one-on-one and never assumed the students knew something they might not - always asked if everyone understood before moving on
223. Tania was great. Really enjoyed it.
224. Maybe spend some time going over the tougher concepts. I liked the projects and labs but I feel like i would have benefited more from working more problems in recitation.
226. Recitations were way too early for me. 8AM
227. Really like exam reviews in recitations, I found them to be alot closer the what we did on the exams, more stuff like the roller coaster and final project, gets you more involved than just sitting there listening to the TA go over stuff that has already been talked about. Maybe make the last fifteen minutes HW questions.
229. n/a
230. try to get done with some time to spare to allow questions on homework
232. they were more effective at the beginning
233. Very good and helpful people :)
234. none
235. recitations were fun and helpful on material I didn't get in lecture.
237. They helped me understand the concepts that I did not necessarily understand from lecture.
238. It was really good and im hoping to get the same TA next semester
240. they were usually helpful. homework was harder than recitations
242. I had a great TA who really helped, but his personality was a little lacking when he taught. Still, he taught us well.
243. none
244. N/A
246. Don't try to teach new things just review and reinforce the old things
247. Demos!
248. Recitations are like any other class in which you will get out of it as much as you want to.
249. Don't have it to where groups areas assigned based on test scores. It is not fair for those who do well to get stuck with someone who doesn't know the material and causes an impact on their grade when a project is due. Students work best when they select who they work with.
250. Recitation was enjoyable with Geoff as a TA. Frances, however, was incredibly moody and temperamental.
253. Recitation very rarely helped me.
254. i learned alot in my recitation class.
256. Fun tasks
257. sometimes they didnt seem to flow with the lectures
258. N/A
259. Houston was a great TA. He deserves an award. Explains everything well.
260. I like having time to just see all these engineering concepts we're learning about in action. It was like proving that they all worked and that was really nice.
262. Recitations should clear any confusion presented during lectures. Geoff Conklin was readily available and always willing to assist us during exam review.
264. I felt like a learned more at recitation and when doing the homework than I did in the lecture...
265. None
266. Loved Todd! SECTION 5C!!
267. Geoff was a really good TA
269. Recitations definitely help me understand the lectures better. Whenever I need help with something, it's almost always covered in recitation.
271. A little too early in the morning, but other than that it was ok.
274. The recitations to should more closely resemble the homework. Yes we learn a lot, but sometimes it's better to actually see some of the problems given then just to read about them.
275. I learned a lot
276. Not always the most helpful with homework but the concept questions were of course always on the tests so that was helpful and Houston (my TA) has a lot of knowledge in engineering.
279. Recitation was also very helpful and I have no complaints. My TA did a good job overall.
280. I did not learn anything in recitation
281. Very helpful and fun as well. Enjoyed the cool experiments and examples that they had.
282. The recitations were good at helping me practice the new materials and get a better understanding about what was taught in lecture.
283. They helped a ton with the material and my TA Patrick was awesome!!
285. They were a joke
286. Liked recitations because of the more personal and hands-on feel compared to a 400+ person lecture.
287. Don't schedule the final over Thanksgiving break.
288. Recitation was a very helpful part of the class because you had more interaction with the TA and he answered you questions in more detail than the professors do because he has more time in recitation. This helped me understand more than lectures because it was hands on learning.
289. The recitations were great at helping me understand the more confusing parts of the material better.
290. Overall I liked the recitations, but sometimes the tasks wouldn't seem completely relevant, but overall I gained quite a bit of knowledge from them.
291. Patrick was awesome! I really hope he will be my TA again next semester for EF 152. He is very receptive and patient with students. He is very prompt in responding to e-mails and returning portfolios.
293. Recitations were taken to lightly. I had a late in the day recitation and we never went over in depth explanations of the problems.
294. These helped me actually understand the material.
296. Patrick was a great TA
297. Patrick did a good job explaining the material to us. Anything from the lecture I didn't understand was usually cleared up after recitation.
298. none.
299. I love my TA Patrick! he is good TA.
300. Recitations were enjoyable and Geoff is an engaging, knowledgeable TA. The format of the class (per the recitation packet), however, is not conducive to students gaining an understanding of the material, in my opinion. The practice problems were nearly useless. I was frequently behind, not due to a lack of incredible effort; and when I was behind, I did not feel justified in taking class time for help, but I was also unable to find extra time to attend SI sessions at school. Further, if the EF151 online homework had been more printer-friendly, bringing it to recitation would have been much easier.
301. Recitations were perfect for reviewing material, asking questions, and catching up on anything I missed during lectures.
302. more review
304. None
305. Recitation was probably my favorite part of this class because it cleared up any issues I had understanding the material.
306. none
307. I felt like there were times when the recitations became less effective because it became like another lecture. It seems to be designed to be a more applied learning session, and I think that is a good thing; however i it needs to be refocused.
308. n/a
310. Really helped with details of lectures
311. None
312. They were very helpful for questions and extra problems and for going more in depth on the module
313. Chris Bates
314. Maybe more of an open ended style rather than a lesson each time. It was like doing homework problems except I had to get up in the morning and walk to Estabrook to do them.
315. my TA was awsome.
316. The recitations were good, especially the extra attention given by the TA.
317. Patrick was a great TA and he really helped certain concepts click. You could tell he really knew the subject unlike my TAs in other subjects.
318. recitation did help alot
320. it's good enough
322. none
323. way too early. i'd do better in the class if it weren't so early
324. I do not usually rate individuals so low but I honestly do not think that Tania should be a TA for this class. Too much of our time was used for reworking recitation problems that the students and the TA had received different answers for. Approximately 50% of the time that these situations arose the students actually had the correct answer. I did not feel as though I could ask her for help with problems because of this. She is an incredibly nice person but I would not want her as my TA again.
326. I could have used more instruction.
327. Recitations seemed at times pointless because there was a lack of helpful suggestions especially for homework. I feel like adding a 15 minute homework help would give a little more reason for participation.
330. good
331. Awesome job Patrick thanks for all the help.
332. Todd was a great TA
334. Enjoyed the projects
Overall Class
Additional comments/suggestions for improving EF 151:
3. Maybe you guys couldnadd more SI hours during the day if that's possible. I love the SI sessions.
4. Very good class, challenging, but good.
5. Loved the class, did not seem like it was weeding out students.
6. Make the lectures shorter and the give more time for homework.
8. Provide more helpful advise on the discussion boards.
9. I definitely learned alot.
10. N/A
11. None
13. I wouldn't know how to improve such a great class.
14. Keep the homework early completion bonus. It motivates the students to stay on top of the work and, thus, improves the quality of education they receive.
16. Not really. Very good.
17. Not as much hw do at the same time. More spread out.
18. Overall, i loved the class
19. None
20. Time is a major issue. I think in the real world you allowed more than 50 minutes to complete something. Lengthen the tests by 15 minutes.
22. Engineering fundamentals should be broken up into classes the size of recitation. The big lecture room was a bad learning environment. It would be nice if the actual exams were more like the practice exams and older exams.
23. This class was overall a very well organized class. I enjoyed the lectures and feel like I was always well informed of what was going on.
26. Less. Homework. The homework questions were really good and challenging and I learned a lot from them, but I often found that I didn't have enough time to do it all and would just give up. Tried to get the answer instead of understanding it.

I love how many interactive examples you guys use.
27. maybe halfway through the modules or 3/4 the way through do a larger review
28. Nothing I think you provided enough resources for students who want to earn a good grade to go out and earn it.
30. Overall, it is a really good class.
31. More clarification on explanations would be nice on discussion board. Sometimes one of the professors answers questions and I don't understand the explanation.
33. N/A
34. none
35. Make the homework problems a little bit easier :P
36. Organize the Team Projects better. The website is very confusing about what is due when and about what actually needs to be done for credit. This is the only thing I can think of that needs to be improved TONS.
37. more examples
38. N/A
39. Not everything needs to have a feedback form, and when feedback forms are due, its very easy to miss the deadlines.
41. Nothing did really great!!
42. The overall class was good.

44. Class is good. More study materials would be nice.

51. Lecture is run well. Recitation could be made more exciting.
52. None
56. Announce deadlines more openly to avoid errors and please dont put useless and undermining hints on the homeworks... it truely is insulting to be working so hard on homework and to have to see that when you are desperate for help.
57. The class taught me a great deal about physics.
58. Nothing it was fine.
59. better team projects
60. None
61. None
63. More homework help
64. none
65. make Lectures useful, or just get rid of them.
66. I love how the exams are MUCH easier than the homework! I feel it is a great preparation for exams.
67. None
69. More hands on projects, like our final project, would be interesting and i believe it would help some students like me who learn better from hands on action to grasp the physical concepts
71. Make the conservation of energy test harder.
72. Make homework problems more like the problems we did in class.
73. Go into more detail in lecture.
74. No
75. the lectures arent very engaging.
76. better communication on what is expected on our homework
77. n/a
78. I thought it provided me with everything i needed to learn the material.
79. Keep it the same. This class is well-organized, understandable, and well-managed. It is, at times, challenging but getting a good grade is possible if the student is willing to put the work in which is a good thing. This class was very enjoyable.
80. good course
81. monotonous
82. Everybody should be guranteed four people for every project, and we should of known about the final project a little sooner than we did because we could of had more time to do finish each assignment with it.
83. less tricky exam problems
84. If we could better the team projects during recitations. it would be fantastic.
86. Slow down.
87. n'a
88. keep the help sessions on the nights that homework is due.
89. Slow down the lectures a little bit, but besides that no other complaints.
90. none
91. Filled out notes online, finding out what we are struggling with during the module and covering recitation on it.
93. It's a pretty well taught class.
95. Nothing.
98. The HW was incredibly time consuming when while trying to keep up with other classes work load. I would suggest a little less HW.
99. Have some recitation time devoted to going over some of the more difficult homework problems
100. I overall enjoyed class. There is nothing that I would change.
101. None.
103. Less homework
104. Nothing.
105. I think you need to work more on explaining the general concept of the material. For example have more demonstrations, etc.
106. i learned a lot
107. none
108. Maybe let us pick our own groups for projects? There is nothing worse than getting into a group with some people who do not care if they pass or fail.
109. Don't waste as much time.
110. Good course, I think it was carried out in a good way, I can't think of any reasonable changes.
111. none
112. Discuss the reasoning behind the material.
115. No. I think this class is taught very well and it gets the student prepared for future classes.
116. No further comments.
118. less bad jokes
119. N/A
120. Computer Engineers do not need this stuff. Do not make it a requirement for computer engineers.
121. I think EF 151 is well organized - no improvements need to be made.
122. Move the tests to a Monday to give the extra time of the weekend to prepare.
123. None
125. Really enjoyed the class for the most part, abundant resources. Maybe out up slides with Blanks filled in the week after they're covered.
126. class was good
127. great class
128. It is a very organized class. I never figured out how to post my homework online and get help on it. Otherwise, it's a great class!
129. ax Frances
131. Aside from the singular comment on recitations, I can offer no suggestions for improving the class as a whole, as there were few flaws whatsoever.
132. Perhaps ease your way into the material more and give more easy examples just so the basics are down before we move onto harder material.
134. no comment
135. EF 151 has been a pretty good class.
136. Too much material at once
138. No Comment.
139. None to mention.
140. We should have more group activities and we should have an easier way to get help on hw.
141. None
143. again it could be taught different.
144. none
145. I wouldn't change a thing
146. Besides what I've already mentioned, moving the final project back two weeks would be great, because students could focus more on it. It's easy to get bogged down by other papers and studying for finals, and I feel as if I couldn't devote as much time to the project as I would have liked.
149. Make lectures more attention grabbing.
151. I enjoyed the class, i dont think anything should change.
153. N/A
154. Very refined. Online stuff could be refined more even though I'm rating it "Very good".
156. the amount of homework was a bit much at times
158. more time to do tests if possible.
159. nope.exe
160. Maybe better materials to work with during recitation.
162. Smaller lecture classes. It is hard to ask a question in front of 401 students.
163. I would just say that I am a transfer student, a junior. I already have my 200-level physics completed, but because my old school didn't have engineering courses, I need to take both levels of EF. If I had come into the engineering program as a freshman and taken these classes? I would not have stuck with engineering.

For a lot of the reasons that I listed in various parts of this form, including the absolute ridiculousness that is the homework, the recitations and class in general that is aimed towards the men, without any attempt at all to be inclusive of the women, the way in which the lectures fail to adequately teach the material, and just in general the amount of busy-work that is expected- I do not think this course in any way is helpful if the goal is to retain the interest of freshman, particularly freshman women, in engineering. The information actually covered in this course is really not all that difficult, and you would do your students a greater service by presenting it clearly and efficiently, and not adding a huge burden by not teaching it properly, or connecting the homework and exams to the material actually presented in lecture.

And I am not saying this because I am doing poorly in the course, I actually think I'm on track to get an 'A,' even though with my course load this semester I have no where near the time this class tries to demand with homework, recitation, lectures, project and exams. It has just been a stressful and unpleasant class, and hopefully some of my suggestions will be taken seriously, before you lose another couple hundred freshman engineers next semester.
164. none
165. I thought it was good all around. The homework was challenging but it did help on the tests.
167. While it's not the most effective use of time, YouTube videos were a nice break to the routine of lecture. Even if it's 2 minutes, once a week, I think many students would like to be able to get another laugh or two in lecture.
169. More thorough explanations of problems.
171. n/a
173. A very good introduction to engineering
175. just try to engage more with students during lectures more visual examples
176. Never had a physics class before, so this was a great way to start it off.
177. Work more problems that would prepare us for the test and that are more like examples on the homework .
178. make recitation grades have a higher percentage in the overall grade
180. Great class.
181. I enjoyed the class, the only downside was the tests.
182. Learned a good amount about physics.
183. The lectures felt boring. The Clicker kept me paying attention in a certain way.
184. overall, i thought it was good.
185. I think for some people the homework was a problem, often getting stuck on problems without any hints. I think creating more hints for the homework would help people to learn the material; nothing too revealing, but more of guiding the students in the right direction. Some of them were extremely helpful and enlightening whereas in other situations without them were less than enjoyable, and in the end, didn't impart any more knowledge than would have been gained from a hint or tip to prevent common mistakes.
186. Overall I would say that EF 151 as a whole is very effective. We, as students, have been provided many avenues of help in the form of discussion boards, help sessions, and office hours. Honestly, short of spoon feeding the answers, the teachers and graduate assistants are there to help us find the answers at every turn. Having 100% participation is not realistic in class of 400, but I would definitely push the help sessions more. I started going to them after the third test and I started kicking myself for not going sooner.
188. The homework is too vague and the practice tests do not reflect the material on the actual test.
189. Slow down the lecture
190. Sometimes recitation felt a little point less
191. No more tricky questions on the test. There should be a semester long project. More visits from engineering departments during lecture to spread the word about their own engineering discipline.
192. None in Particular
193. n/a
195. Great!!! More projects...A lil' punkin chunkin this time!
197. Overall, very great class.
200. Some of the in-class examples are confusing and hard to follow, especially because they must be copied down in class and sometimes this can be difficult and confusing. In the notes it would be helpful if there were additional problems already worked out that we could look at outside of class.
201. Show us hard examples and slow down. YOu kept worrying about finishing all the problems and not making sure we understood all of them.
202. Fine as is.
204. Module 3 and 4 were killers. Define what "I" or "mass moment of inertia" even is.
207. None
208. It was my favorite class.
209. There is honestly nothing wrong with the class. The only thing is that we have alot of homework that is every other night but that can't be changed.
210. Overall this class is good as is. But the test are surely challenging. May be the test could be more a bit more easier as in easier on the time cause of the limited time.
211. none
212. The class seems to be utterly useless for anyone who has taken a decent high school basic physics course. I see no reason why students are not allowed to test out of this class. I felt this class was a waste of time. The amount of knowledge I received by taking this class I probably could have learned on my own in less than a week on wikipedia.
213. none
216. Lectures and recitations every day are very helpful. Keep this the same.
217. Was easy to keep up with, but team projects seemed to be the most problematic.
219. seemed to be overall fairly effective, though many concepts are still very vague and confusing which led to studying the literal process and not concepts.
220. Better feed back on discussion boards.... Most times the hardest part about a problem was knowing how to set it up, and that seemed to be the subject that everyone was least willing to divulge.
221. Simplify homework.
222. The exams could stand to be a little less demanding - not in terms of possible points, but less involved (e.g. one problem should not endeavor to incorporate ALL or NEARLY ALL of the laws or equations of the module); in other words, an exam with more problems of a lesser degree of complexity would have been highly appreciated. Use uniform variable systems to decrease confusion. Cool it with the greek letters...
223. Tests were really hard, and maybe go over homework more in recitation.
226. Nothing. It's fine how it is.

235. Great class! I enjoy most all of it. it made physics fun and interesting.
237. Cover more difficult problems in lecture.
238. Some times i get distracted and i dont pay attention, maybe getting students more involved.
239. More time on projects. Especially the final project. It would've been easier if it was due before thanksgiving, that way it didn't interfere with exams and we would have it over with.
240. recitation should be more like homework
242. Reduce the amount of homework due!!!
243.  Someone needs to talk to the camera guy from the recorded lectures and tell him zoom in to the point where the camera is showing only the stage and not the audience. It is hard to see where the professors are pointing because it's not properly zoomed in. lecture was very good though.
244. N/A
246. None
248. EF 151 has been my favorite class of this semester. Sometimes this doesn't seem true when working a very difficult problem on the homework. Even then, I really like the class.
249. n/a
253. More projects.
254. n/a
256. I found homework to be challenging and the test problems were twisted and made more difficult
257. more consisency in lesson/recitation material
258. N/A
259. Watch the discussion board more often. It is kinda frustrating when no one answers the questions.
260. Make the homework harder. It's a pretty big jump from the homework problems to the test problems and it would be better to have the students try and apply the concepts like they do on the test problems more. It would be better practice and would more than likely improve how well the students actually learned the material.
261. Sometimes the tests had points marked off with no explanation. While I understand that you guys were trying to encourage us to go back and look at our lecture slides, it was still annoying seeing a problem with just a minus number on it.
262. The homework is overbearing at times.
264. Other than being a tad fast... I can't really complain... Time constraint during the tests stresses me out... I know I never do my best on those...
265. Take some more time on some of the lecture slides.
266. good class. not that hard except the 3rd mod
267. none
268. Keep doing what you're doing.
271. Doing great, maybe add better hints to homework, a lot of them were too obvious to be helpful.
275. N/A
276. n/a
279. The only thing I wish I could change is the time limit on the tests. I feel like if I had 10 more minutes on each test it would have made a dramatic difference. I feel like I know the material enough to have earned an A, but one of my biggest weaknesses has always been speed on test. This class really showed me that I have to get better in that area of school, but I feel like it cost me more pionts than it should have on alot of tests.
280. I think it was pretty good
281. Definitely my favorite class of the semester. Loved the material we were learning and how it applied to real life problems.
282. Would not change anything.
283. Don't add in random did-bits of things that don't need to be know for anything in EF 151
285. Hard
286. Maybe a little less homework, but the amount given was definitely doable.
287. n/a
289. Loved it.
290. It is a tough class from a homework and test point of view, but it is an engineering class and I expected no less. It was a blast and I would take it again and not complain about it.
292. It was difficult since I've had ZERO physics but I learned A LOT.
293. Just more focus on problem solving. The overall concepts are not what is difficult to understand; what makes this class difficult are the complicated homework problems.
294. None
298. none.
299. too much of homework.... s :(
300. The homework took exorbitant amounts of time. For the most part, I was content with the problems; but it was intensely frustrating that preparing them to be printed took so much extra time. This impeded upon my learning, because as it was, I already did not have enough time to do all of my class work. The fact that the textbook is not required made things difficult also. When I referenced the text, I had to decipher its convoluted notation and technical verbosity, and then discern the seemingly vague similarities between it and the lecture problems. If the lectures were geared toward the text, I would have understood the text better.
301. I love this class.
302. none
304. None
305. I guess having two assignments due at once is kind of challenging, although we are given plenty of time to complete those assignments, so it's not that big of a deal.

310. Changing groups in recitation only once. Have the same group for two modules.
311. None.
312. More review before tests
313. None
314. Some sort of system for helping with the extremely hard homework problems. I think they discourage me more than they teach me anything when it takes an hour and 10 tries to get it right.
315. none
316. Perhaps a little more focus can be made on a deeper understanding of specific parts of rotational motion, namely angular momentum. I had to really think about this concept individually to understand it well. The conservation of angular momentum, especially relating to instances when axes of rotation tilt and change, is a bit of an abstract concept. What really helps me understand this concept, is remembering that specifically, PARALLEL components of angular momentum are conserved.
317. I think it is a great program. It further confirmed my decision to persue engineering as a career. The website is far supperior to blackboard or mytuk in my opion as well. Really happy with EF so far.
318. better notes that relate more to homework and tests
319. keep making engineering fun, it sure made me want to continue on into an engineering path.

327. I have learned more in EF than any other class I have ever taken.. Love it
330. more examples in lecture
331. I would say don't spend as much time on Module 1 and put that time for Module 4 seemed like it was a little too rushed.
332. I liked how everything was set up

121. I absolutely love this website, especially the discussion board. I like how we are able to do pretty much everything for this class on the website rather than 20 different sites.

188. The website is very good and feels very solid. Sometimes a bit of script gets displayed on the homework problem pages, but it doesn't seem to affect anything.
190. It's good because it leads you directly where you need to go depending on what you're looking for
191. Really easy to use.

208. I wasn't used to online stuff after high school but it turned out to be really good. The discussion board helped a bunch.
209. I would forget to do feedback forms.
210. Just keep it as is. Maybe display extra credit opportunities in a different manner ( more noticeable).
211. kept me updated
212. The website appears to work quite well, actually.
213. none
214. User-friendly, however there is some rough edges in some of the side-bar categories such as the Online HW which looks like someone forgot about it. Homework crashed on me once and erased all my answers but Dr. Bennett was quick to help me out with it.
216. Website is perfectly fine.
217. I can't find exam info.
218. It was sometimes a little glitchy, especially with links. Also, it was sometimes confusing when something has a link, but had not been posted yet, for instance, the final project.
It might be helpful if the Announcements page sent out an email with the information on it as well; it was kind of easy to miss stuff posted on there.
219. it was extremely beneficial to keep track of current grades and due-dates. the discussion boards were also crucial.
222. While the discussion board was almost NEVER a help and is probably more trouble than it is worth to maintain, the mere fact of 110 point possible for homework completed a day early redeems it (this saved my grade where poor-to-fair grades on exams lacked); the only problem here was needing to fully understand the material to complete the homework and the fact that help sessions are designed to fall only on the days homework is due for 100 % credit...
223. Good.
226. It's way easier to use than Blackboard

300. Aspects of the site are excellent. Navigation is easy, and the available material (lecture videos, HW discussion board) is quite useful.
301. I love how organized this website was. The only thing I could think of to improve the website would be to forward the announcements to our utk emails.
302. need reminders when homeworks are due

General comments/suggestions on the textbook:
3. I didn't buy one. I borrowed from a friend. I learned more from lectures and lecture videos.
4. The textbook presented the material in a much more difficult manner. I did not get any help out of it at all.
5. Decent text book, some of the examples were confusing.
6. I used the textbook ocassionalky, but I don't think it would be worth the money.
8. The textbook was really helpful on some of the homework problems.
9. Don't reference the book as a hint when no one has the book.
10. Wasn't used very often.
11. None
12. I didn't find the textbook very helpful, even when specific examples were cited in homework problems. I also tried to use it to get a different explanation of the topics we were studying, but I found it difficult to follow. I don't think a textbook was necessary for this class
13. I just didn't use it much because I don't like textbooks.
14. I found the text hard to follow and not very clear. I would recommend looking for a more comprehensive text.
16. Did not have one.
18. The text book examples did not help in any shape, form or fashion.
19. None
20. textbook sucked. find one that is easy to comprehend for someone whose never had physics before.
21. Some examples in the book as pointed out in homework were drastically different from the assignment.

23. I have rarely used my textbook.
24. N/A
25. I never used the textbook. It was a waste of money and should not be required.
26. If so many of the homework question hints are going to be from the textbook, you need to emphasize that instead of simply saying that it isn't mandatory.
27. I feel like it would be useful if I did have it.
28. I prefer not to use textbooks
30. Did not buy one.
31. The professors lecturing and homework examples and discussion boards and practice exams teach me better than textbooks because of how I learn.

35. I didn't use it much, but it helped when homework hints referred to specific examples.

66. I did not buy the book, however, I should have, as many of the hints on homework problems required me to look at examples in the text. Not sure how they would have helped, as I did not get a chance to look at these examples.
67. There shouldn't be one.
69. I wish i was told at the beginning of the year about the text book because i believe it would had helped a lot.
71. In this new age of interwebs and what have you, science text books on basic concepts are only useful for practice problems.

83. since we did not use it much, when it was time to use it the information seemed like very foreign material
85. The textbook examples are very hard to follow.
86. The text book was near useless and offered no form of help.
87. n/a
89. I didn't seem to help all that much, or at least the examples that the homework said to look at for help.
90. I didn't like the whole "suggested" textbook thing. Had I known that so many of the homework problems would be in the textbook, I probably would have bought the thing at the beginning of the semester.
91. It wasn't really needed. I used a friend's book to look at text examples when the hints said to but they didn't help me at all. Asking a friend or looking over notes is what made the problem make sense.
92. It seemed like many of the homework problems were explained in the book but because the book was optional I did not buy one. It would help if the website at least stated that the textbook is helpful in understanding homework problems.
93. Not needed.
95. I did not use mine much.
98. N/A
100. With the hints, the book did not always help with the homework problems. I found that frustrating. I only purchased the book because I never had taken physics until I got to college.
101. It was annoying when hints were textbook 5.1 and a textbook was optional for the class.
104. I have my brother's textbook from when he took the class and I did not even open it.
105. I didn't ever need/want the textbook. I would suggest not using one. However, it was frusterating on the homework when the hint was a textbook problem.
106. the equations in the text book have different characters than used in class so it was hard to follow in the textbook
107. none
108. Well I think I bought the new textbook and a few times while doing the homework a hint would be to look at a certain section or example and it did not match with the new text. I read the textbook every module and I do think it did help me understand a little better but it is hard to say that it was worth what I payed for it. I can use google for free to look up worked physics problems for help.
110. Very helpful on some HW problems, when the right example number in the book is given in the hints.
111. none
112. Follow the text book by the modules. Include in lecture
115. The examples used different notation or wording for the problems than we used in lecture. Looking at textbook examples never helped me. Eventually I just stopped opening the book.
116. I only used it when I was desperate or when the hint said to refer to the text.
118. none
119. N/A
120. It's worthless.
121. Although i did not use the textbook alot, when i did use it, it was extremely helpful especially with the homework. Also, when i was unable to grasp a concept that we talked about in lecture or recitation, the textbook would always help.
122. On the homework do not reference the textbook since it was not required.
123. N/A
125. Never really used it. When I consulted it, wasn't much help.
126. kind of confusing
127. useful if you just wanted to teach the material to yourself and skip all lectures, otherwise useless. lectures and discussion board explained everything
128. I did not buy it.
131. While the recommended textbooks were the 12th and 13th editions, the hints on homework were constructed around the 12th edition. I possessed the 13th edition, which made most hints referring to specific textbook examples useless.
132. N/A
134. if hints on homework was not out of the book there would be no real need of textbook
135. I didn't have a textbook.
138. The problems that the homwork tells you to reffer to often do not help with that specific homework problem at all.
140. We need a better text book.
141. none
142. Textbook is completely useless for this class.
143. it should b required
144. N/A
145. N/A
146. The textbook was useful for general information about concepts, but some of the examples the "Hints" suggested were useless, and if a specific problem is hanging you up then the Textbook is no help. If you don't understand the broader concept, then the book is more useful.
149. Did not buy and fared very well in the class. I would recommend to those who struggle in math or physics.
151. Did not purchase one.
153. N/A
154. The homework and exams lean heavily on lectures and recitations. Textbook is rarely cited.
158. too confusing
159. nope.gif
160. Didn't have one.
163. The only thing that bothered me was some of the homework hints gave textbook examples, when the textbook was listed as optional for the course. But it really wasn't that big of an issue.
164. Made problems more complicated than they were many times.
167. I chose not to purchase the textbook, and never regretted that choice throughout the semester.
169. N/A
170. usually helped with problems i was stuck on

173. Useless even when used for a hint. Left me more confused after reading.
175. none
177. Glad that it is not required, because I felt like I got by without the textbook fine.
178. pick one that has better examples, some of them were really confusing
182. The examples were vague in comparison to some of the homework problems.
184. Didn't buy it.
185. I didn't use it and I was rather disappointed in many of the cases that went something like "refer to section/problem x.x in your textbook" for homework help.
186. none.
187. The website and lecture videos make the text useless
188. What's a textbook?
190. Either make it required or get more examples from the book so that people don't waste their money
191. It was pretty handy to have when the homework was tricky.
192. N/A
193. n/a
195. I was told that I did not need a textbook and I really didn't ever need it because I had help that I found from people that already had the class and that was better than a book.
197. N/A
198. It was used fairly heavily in the hints on the homework for a book that was not required. That was rather irksome.
200. The examples suggested from the homework site often didn't help much. It seems that some topics are hidden, and the book could definitely be better organized.
201. If you are going to suggest a book please tell us the lecture before what pages we should look over for the next lecture. I feel like that will help out a lot.
202. Didn't really use it.
204. .
205. I didn't get one
206. Textbook is definately not needed for this class.
207. Hard to relate what professors were teaching to the book at times
208. We really didn't need them.
209. Don't need a book.
210.  I didn't have the textbook so i can not comment or speculate.
211. n/a
212. The textbook, much like the lectures, seems to consist of example problems without an explanation of the concepts, particularly on a basic level. Without a basic, conceptual understanding behind it, knowledge is essentially useless because you cannot trust it.
213. none
216. N/A
217. I was not aware of a textbook until it came to homework. Hints involving the textbook were the only times it came up.
218. i never bought this, and it did not seem too necessary, even though many of the hints centered around use of the textbook.
219. instead of having homework hints refer to the textbook, incorporate more actual concepts into hints and the homework and understanding will go much smoother
220. Stop requiring it. I'm sure I will keep the book for future reference in my career, but I only opened it once, and it wasn't really helpful at all for that specific problem. If anything it should be suggested material, not required. I really wish I had my money back.
222. Incorporate the text more, especially in examples provided. A uniform set of variable would also help (e.g. just use v1 and v2 rather than v0 and v1)
223. E book!
224. some of the variables were different which was a little confusing
226. I didn't ever use the textbook, so I don't know how good it was.
227. Lectures were good enough that I didnt need the book.
228. I found the same text book on amazon for 3 dollars so I would check there first
229. It would probably help a lot but the class can be done without one.
230. n/a
234. On the hints in the homework also say the example in the new edition.
235. I didn't buy a text book. I still did very well without it since the lectures were so good.
237. Internet.
240. it probably would have helped
242. I regret not purchasing a textbook. It may have helped even more.

244. N/A
246. Most of the Hints for Textbook References were wrong
249. n/a
253. No textbooks needed!
254. The class did not require a text book, however doing the homework was almost impossible without it. Either make it a requirement or make the homework easier. ie when giving a hint dont say "homework example 10.4"
257. i didnt understand the set up of the book
258. Cumbersome
259. Make the book required. The students will be more likely to buy it and therefore use it to study.
262. The textbook is difficult to comprehend at times.
263. NA
264. I don't think the textbook for this class is any help at all...
265. did not use it much... did not help.
266. Didnt need it
267. none
268. Kind of unnecessary.
269. I only used or read the textbook whenever I needed help with homework. Most of time I was able to get it on my own, so I never really used it. Also, since we don't really use the textbook, some of the material in it doesn't apply to our class.
271. Didn't see a need, lecture notes are much clearer than the book.
274. A textbook should be required for this class but perhaps something that is has more detail in it. The book is like an only english speaking person reading latin. Some parts are easy to look over but some parts I needed to read over 6 or 7 times just to get the general idea they were talking about
275. N/A
276. I bought it from ebay for $7. Didn't use it too much but it was only $7.
279. did not use it much, but it did help on some problems.
280. i used it a total of two times
281. Wish i would have bought one. If i had known there was a textbook for the class i definitely would have bought one.
282. The textbook was not used often except for a handful of times.
283. Actually use the textbook if you ask us to get one
285. Didnt use
286. Didn't really like how the textbook was written. It made it harder to understand concepts than it should've been. Also, it's really expensive for a book I hardly ever used.
287. Although it was recommended but not required, a majority of the hints offered for homework were to look in the book.
289. I bought mine for $15 and that was including shipping, so it was a well spent $15 because I used it more than once a month.
290. Whenever I used the textbook it really only served to confuse me more.
292. I had purchased an online version but hadn't used it in the 30 day trial period so I got my money back. I don't think I ever really could have used it and I did fine without it.
293. Many students did not buy the textbook; but it would be extremely helpful if the we were sent additional worked out example problems either in pdf from the textbook or just problems like the homework.
294. none
297. With the discussion board and help sessions, there is little need for the textbooks with the course.
298. It helped to have another way of approaching the material.
300. The textbook was virtually impossible to decipher in the time I had to make attempts at it. The concepts as presented in the lecture packet were oversimplified. It would have made things easier if switching between the lecture packet and the textbook were not like going from grade school phonics to high school grammar.
301. Something that annoyed me was that some of the hints on the homework referred to pages in the textbook... which most of us did not buy. There might as well not be any hint for the majority of us.

General comments/suggestions on the clickers:
3. I think the clicker is fun, but I hated buying it. Have you guys considered renting them out?
4. I did not use my clicker in any other class this semester, but many classes are starting to use them now.
5. Clickers are a great idea to take attendance and give points to students who actually come to class.
6. The clickers are somewhat useful, but are expensive.
8. I really liked the clicker activities. I would suggest to anyone who has a smartphone or iPod that they get the $15 per year service instead of the clicker.
9. I hope I use it in other classes in college.
10. Great way to check attendance/give credit to students who showed up to lectures, keeps students involved. System occasionally did not work.

18. yea
19. A good tool for lectures helps break up the time.
20. good idea for the extra points for the class, but not really effective in learning anything.
22. They were helpful in such a large lecture seeing how it's the only feed back the professors get.
23. Gave students an incentive for going to class.
24. A little on the frivolous side, but fun and interesting regardless.
25. I liked the clicker use, but I think that sometimes we wasted valuable class time doing clicker questions that were not relevant to class.
26. Good system.
27. basically the only reason I kept coming to class, so very useful!
28. I liked figuring things out with it. and if the who class did bad on a section it made me feel good knowing i got it right. good for confidence
30. I think clickers are a beneficial addition to lecture.
31. I didn't enjoy buying it or using it but I can see why they help.

78. i like how they give you a grade even if you get the answer wrong bc it takes me awhile to fully understand material.
79. The clicker system is great. I would keep the same 75% rule to allow for technical problems, forgetfullness, or excused absences.
80. good way of staying tuned into class
81. bad if you forgot it
82. Highlight of the lecture in my opinion
83. kept the class attentive
86. Clickers are an incentive to attend and stay awake during lecture.
87. difficult to answer clicker qs with calcs in them
89. I really like the clickers, it gives you more an incentive to attend the class and adds an easy grade to obtain.
90. good system

131. The clickers certainly made lectures more interactive; something that was quite beneficial. The use of clickers should certainly continue.
132. Easy grade. also helped on material that i wasn't familiar with.
134. no comment
135. Clickers worked well.
138. I liked being able to answer questions on the clicker, but for some questions typing in your answer instead of selecting one would be better.
139. None to mention.
140. The clickers seemed more affective than using other forms.
141. meh.
142. Not so many clicker questions.
143. none
144. none
145. Good way to take attendance
146. N/A
149. Thought to be a very effective system.
151. Good way to learn and should have more questions.
153. N/A
154. Stimulating and entertaining.
158. very good to see how students are understanding the material and makes you pay attention
159. nope.png
160. Liked using them. Felt like it was a good reward for going to class.
163. None.
164. none
167. I really enjoyed using clickers, and felt they supplemented my learning during lecture. The bugs encountered using the web clickers were disappointing, but not an issue for physical clicker users like myself.
169. I feel as though they were kind of unnecessary
170. didn't always have enough time to finish the questions
171. n/a
173. Awesome, wish it had been in my high school.
175. none
177. Good for making people pay attention. Kept me on task during class.
178. liked them
180. Keep the clickers. They are fun.
181. Give us more time to answer.
182. Works as intended.
184. I like having them. I sure wish we would have gotten 100% just once!
185. Really great way to involve the students.
186. I thought the clickers were a great way to get the class involved, but getting them set up did waste class time on some days. Also, they are kind of expensive and setting them up online wasn't always easy.
188. Too many students take them as a joke. They are a joke.
190. Sometimes you can't get the answer in and the question closes, so you should leave the question open a little longer just in case this happens
191. Great idea.
192. Sometimes the question goes by too fast.
193. n/a
195. Awesome!!!
197. Good conceptual questions asked that helped me understand the real world implications of these physics concepts.
200. I like them, very effective.
202. Kind of seem like a waste of money since anyone could go in for someone else with there clicker making it seem like they went.
204. Too expensive and not necessary.
206. Did not always respond well, so i missed a few questions i could have gotten.
207. Good idea, but manually entering a number is a pain in the rear.
208. They kept us in the lecture.
210. It wasn't clear to me the first few week that i had to re-register my clicker because i assume since i was retaking the class i believed my clicker was still registered in the system.
211. some questions require more time
212. The clickers were annoying and I do not understand why attending such a worthless lecture is a part of the grade. Even if the lecture had been better, why is attendance graded? Attendance signifies no knowledge gain or otherwise academic ability.
213. none
214. I like the idea of active-lecturing and I support that a participation grade can come from it, however I don't believe students should be penalized for wrong answers. Oftentimes the countdowns were too brief. I think that if you didn't penalize, you would still see similar statistics of students paricipating/getting correct answers. Try it out for a semester and see if it is comparable.
216. See above on lectures.
217. I'd like to see other teachers use clickers.
219. it was good to have the interaction, but the price was a pain.
220. Need more time on questions requiring calculation. Often I felt rushed and so I just pushed a button. (some credit is better than no credit) Also, the correlation between clicker and attendance, I feel that the clicker grades are used more to gauge attendance. I left my clicker at home, but was in lecture on several occasions, there should be some way of still getting credit.
221. Thought they slowed down lecture too much.
222. ask more concept questions; ask fewer or no questions wherein calculations must be done--realistically, a lecture class of 400+ students doesn't really allow for questions to be asked (even if you ask if there are any questions) so if I don't understand something how am I going to know how to answer the question about it a minute later?
226. The clickers keep everyone interested.
227. Love the funny questions
229. n/a
230. make them cheaper
233. The clicker questions go by really really fast. Most of the time its really hard to understand the question, because of time pressure.
234. none
235. A cool way to do lecture
238. It helped people get involved, just give more time for questions
240. it didn't always work
242. The iPod/iPhone app is amazing!
243. made the class fun
244. N/A
246. Very Useful made sure that we knew the material
249. n/a
253. i love the clicker questions to make us think.
254. I understand the need for the clicker, but if the intention was to learn from the clicker, it was not accomplished. I liked being interactive in class, but i did not learn much from them.
255. It's difficult to get problems in alloted time sometimes and it's easy to accidentally not answer the question.
257. fun to use
258. N/A
259. Clickers make all the students show up for classes.
260. I thought it was a very interesting way to keep the class engaged while also taking attendance without interrupting the lecture.
263. NA
264. Going back to the fast lectures, it is hard to answer math intensive questions. There really isn't much time for understanding the material when you're struggling to keep up with copying down how problems are solved...
265. None
266. Didnt always register. over all a poor evaluation of attendence and cooperation
267. none
268. Good stuff
269. I really like using the clicker. I wish more classes would do it. It's also an easy way of seeing who actually attends lectures.
271. Work on it.
274. I think the clickers are a great way to test the knowledge. It kept me paying attention in class and I constantly tried (more often failed) to stay a step a head during class.
275. It caused me to go to lecture
276. good.
279. Overall worked great, no complaints. A suggestion would be to have some kind of beep or noise as a noification once the 5 second countdown starts, because sometimes me and other people around me I noticed would be looking down trying to figure out the answer and the time would run out before I even got to make a guess and that is 7 pionts lost.
280. they were helpful
281. Easy to use.
283. They should only be graded for completion, not correctness
285. Sucked
286. Clickers are a good way to help keep people accountable for coming to lectures and keeping engaged in what the lecturers are saying.
287. n/a
289. I bought the year subscription on my laptop then started using my iPod after I found out that ResponseWare had an app. It is a great way to ask the whole class questions andsee how many understand the concept.
290. I liked the idea, but overall I feel like they didn't add anything to the class.
292. I should probably buy an actual clicker; more reliable and I would be able to lend it to someone when I'm gone.
293. Clickers are great at insuring students participate in lecture
294. None
296. the clickers didnt always work which hurt grades
297. Definitely useful for getting immediate feedback on how well you are understanding the material.
298. none.
300. The clicker is a fantastic tool.
301. You should make sure people know about the downloadable clickers before they invest 50 dollars in the clicker at the bookstore.
302. too short of time to figure some of the answers out
304. None
305. This is a good method for checking attendance and earning extra points.
306. none
308. n/a
310. Wish the grades kept up with the clickers all year
311. None
312. Easy grade so i obviously love them.
313. Obnoxious
314. I lost mine and never got a new one. Seems like a cheap attendance grade masquerading as a teaching tool.
315. none
316. I think it's good to have the clickers, especially in such a large class.
317. I really made some lectures fun. I love trying to think on my own in the middle of a lecture, and the funny/joke questions kept class interesting at times.
318. too expensive
320. internet didn't work sometime.
322. none
323. I hate those things. It makes it hard to skip lecture.
324. none
327. Cool way to participate
330. fun
331. Clickers were a great way to keep the class interactive keep doing it.
332. Phone did not work well
334. good encouragement to attend lecture

How does the system compare to other systems you may have used?
2. I like the online homework. It's easier to me to have it online than a paper version of the hw.
3. I like the homework system. Sometimes it's hard and way too time consuming, but it helps me learn.
4. It is a much better online homework system. Comparing it to masteringchemistry and other masteringscience programs, it blows them away.
5. I don't think I have ever used an online homework system before, I really liked it easy to use, don't have to carry around a book and paper. Can access it from any computer which is really nice.
6. I worked alone at first and then compared with a person. If needed, I went to get help with friends.
8. It is a lot better than mastering chemistry.
9. Was not penalized for the wrong answer on other system.
10. I find it simpler and more practical.
11. Very useful and interactive. I liked the structure of the homework.
12. It is better than mastering chemistry which is the only other system I have to compare it to, because you don't have to worry about losing points because of a weird format you have to put your answer in.
13. I like this system much better compared to conventional homework methods. My heart raced whenever I got a 'ding' and a correct window showed up.
14. I liked the immediate feedback and I liked it way better than the "Mastering (subject)" because it was helpful and not as ridiculously picky about sig figs in the answers.
15. It works a lot better
16. It was more effective.
17. Better than others
18. The system is ok. the hints and discussion board helped a lot. The online system however is not good though because you can just keep putting answers in. I personally, would prefer not to use it and do it by hand. This would better prepare us for the tests
19. It is much easier to use and more effective.
20. havent used other systems like this.
21. n/a
22. It was alot better than web assign.
23. This homework was set up nicely. I liked the fact that we could still work on it even after the due date.
24. Phenomenal system. Best at the university (in my experience).
25. The system was great. way better than any other system I've used.
26. I like the homework system. There's just too much of it.
27. I have used mastering chemistry and web assign, and I feel like this is much easier to use.
28. I liked it, i generally like the whole design of the online portion of this class.
30. Much better
31. It's better.
33. Better.

35. I think working in groups would probably have helped..
36. Very good

38. I haven't ever used any systems like this before.
39. I haven't used any other systems, but this one seemed easy to navigate. Some problems were overly difficult and almost none of the examples shown in class were extremely helpful on the homework.
40. It was helpful and challenging but not over the top hard.
41. Better than anything
42. It is very effective.
43. N/A
44. Usually they were very close. Typically a rounding issue was the culprit for different answers.
45. Much better
47. Very similar
48. Much better, good job.
49. Perfect
50. it works well vs. mastering chemistry/masteringphysics.
51. It is the best system I have used yet.
53. Have never done online homework before college.
54. The online homework was frusterating at times when there were multiple assignments due on the same day.
55. I haven't used any other system like this one.
56. It is very effective.. wouldn't change it
58. I havent used any systems like this.

73. This system is awesome!
74. It is better
75. it is good
76. much better ! it was better organized.
77. A lot more work.
78. It was okay. The discussion board was helpful if i couldn't get a problem, but it was extremely frustrating when you can't understand a problem and end up guessing ten times only to get it wrong. I like that you can punt the question, but i think if you punt you should be able to see how to work out the question. I wish it had shown me how to solve it, without necessarily giving me the answer so i could work it out myself. for my stats class after so many tries it gives you the option to see the solution of a similar problem that has different numbers and then instead of giving up like i do with ef, i try to work through the problem.
79. This is the only online system for homework I have used. It is effective and helpful.
80. its ok. some problems are a little to tough for an online type deal
81. never done online
82. I haven't used other systems. The hints and discussion groups were very succussful.
83. it prepares you for exams better than any other out there
84. Excellent
85. The homework system is very good. I like that all the homework was do every week at the same time. Also I liked that there was a discussion board that you could use for help.
86. Group work makes the endless amount of homework speed up and increases my understanding of the homework.
87. works well
89. I runs a lot faster and smoother than other programs such as the mastering ones but also works well if you are working with others.
90. It was very effective at making you learn the material
91. It is a lot better than webassign or masteringchemisty. It is more specific and provides a place for questions if we're struggling with something.
92. It's better than other online systems.
93. It's very similar.
94. It's better because of the use of hints and discussion.
95. Much better.
96. The online homework was very effective.
97. This homework was very effective, the discussion board was very helpful as well.
98. The system is the only one I have used but it was very good.
99. I have never done homework online before
100. I like this system better. I liked that we had discussion boards to help with the homework.
101. It was very easy to maneuver around.
103. It was very time consuming
104. I like this system better then Mastering Chemistry and Webassign just because it is easier to navigate.
105. I like it. It is effective on understanding the problems and giving you a variety of examples to you.
106. i liked it, work on my own time
107. I haven't used any other systems.
108. I'm just glad you could work for the 110%
110. AWESOME!!!
111. its better
112. It is better.
113. pretty well, the only class where i could actually see other peoples advice on the problem
114. different than any previous experience
115. Never used a system like this, but I really liked this system.
116. This seems much better than all the rest.
117. I think it worked well. I hate having papers to keep track of and the online system told me if my answer was incorrect or correct instead of making me wait until someone grades it.
118. alright
119. harder
120. It's a fairly good system, and not finicky and dumb like MasteringChemistry.
121. Out of all my classes, i spent the majority of my time working on EF homework. However, spending so much time on the homework helped me understand the material more. Overall, I am grateful that we were given homework in the manor that we were given. (the discussion board was a lifesaver)
122. It was much better than some of the mastering homework software.
123. At the top
125. Better questions that build upon each other.
126. very effective
127. i dont know
128. This system is the best one I have used so far.
129. better than any other math online homework i have had
131. Compared to Mastering Chemistry and WebAssign, the system for EF was much more effective and user-friendly. As of yet, it is the best system I've used for online homework purposes.
132. Very effective
133. I have never had a class that required answers to be submitted online. It was easy to use and I never had any big problems with the system.
134. best that i have used so far
135. I have never used an online system for homework before.
136. average
137. This system is much cleaner and smoother in comparison to the systems used by my other classes.

140. It was vastly different but I liked it. The hints and discussion board became useful.
141. bad.
142. About the same.
143. N/a
144. it was my first online experience in a class. i don't like having to write everything out on engineering paper, but it did help me when i went back to study my homework for the exams.
145. Definitely better than WebAssign
146. I definitely prefer the layout much more.
147. The online homework is awesome, beats "MasteringPhysics" any day.
148. I enjoy the system because it is consistent, and I know what to expect.
149. It is the best system I have used.
151. Never used any other online system before.
152. It was a lot better than others. I used Mastering Chemistry and it did not help me at all.
153. Similar to other physics homework systems used in high school.
154. Immensely better.
155. a lot easier to manage
156. much better than webassign
158. better
159. different
160. It was easy to operate and I like the hints and discussion board.
162. pretty effective
163. It is comparable.
164. It is better than most that I have used.
165. I really like the fact that it offers us multiple chances to get it right for little penalty unlike mastering homework where you get five tries.
166. better than others
167. The system is far superior to any other system I have ever used.
168. it is easier to use than other systems i have used in the past
169. This is the most affective i've personally worked with.
170. haven't used another system
171. A lot better because most the answers are not just numbers you have to put symbols and different things in, which makes it impossible to get the right answer entered in.
173. Unique, never had one quite like it
174. I like the way that the online homework system works. The hints and discussion board are really really helpful.
175. it is more effective
177. I have never used online homework in high school, but we did use the online system in chemistry. It was easier to use than the chemistry since it is done by the professors themselves.
178. it really helped drill the material into my head
179. same
180. This is the best system.
181. I like it way better than the system Blackboard uses.
182. I enjoy this system because of the community that is presented with the discussion board.
183. Much better than mastering chemistry. Although, the questions sometime's seem unclear.
184. great!
185. It's a fantastic system, in most cases better than others I've encountered.
186. It was much easier to use than other systems I've used.
187. better
188. The system itself is very good.
190. This is the only system that I've used, but I like it
191. The system is really efficient.
192. It has its pros and cons.
Pros: Easy to do homework, quick, efficient
Cons: Server errors can be annoying, Cannot punt instantly
193. I like this system a lot and it is very understandable.
194. It's better. The discussion boards are helpful.
195. I like the fact that I get immediate answers and that there is a try penalty because it motivates me to want to get the question right the first time.
197. It was very different.
198. Pretty good.
200. It's beautiful, streamlined, and efficient.
201. I enjoy that it gives me multiple chances.
202. IT's different because i've never had to do physics homeowkr online.
203. I think a larger group may have been better to bounce around ideas, but would have provided more distraction.
204. It is very good up until Module 3 or 4 because the content became so subjective it was hard to get help.
205. It is much better than the masteringchemistry system.
206. I like the system how it gives direct feed back and hints.
207. First online system I've used
208. It doesn't.
209. It's much better that masteringchemistry
210. Its pretty well put together. it is very easy to use and understand.
211. never used anything like it
212. The homework system was easy to navigate and use, especially the ability to work online.
213. it is good
214. Very straightforward, and pretty forgiving. If anything, if you are going to try and throw students a curveball by requiring unit conversions/whacky units, draw more attention to it in the problem. Lost a lot of points to that even though it is mostly my fault.
216. Better than my mastering chem online homework. On the EF hw we are able to use the discussion board to give and receive help.
217. It was much better than chemistry.
218. Never used a system like that before, so it took some getting used to, but it was easy to use after you initially figured it out.
219. this was my only online homework, so i do not have any comparisons
220. on par
221. It was more difficult.
222. similar to MyMathLab; this one is a little more user friendly in terms of entering solutions into fields; MyMathLab has no extra credit available; best of all, this system is included in the course (access to MyMathLab requires purchasing the text new for the code)
223. N/A
224. It was tough and alot of work but defnitley increased my learning and cut time studying for the exams.
226. It's interesting. I like that we have to keep trying til we get it right.
227. I really like the system we used, really easy, only messed up when internet was being slow.
229. About the same.
230. never had online homework
231. This is the first system i have used.
232. simple to use yet hard
233. Much better.
234. haven't used any other online systems. Better than written homework though.
235. Very good, only went down i believe once in the semster. Very easy to use.

244. Better
245. I liked the way the homeworks were set up.
246. Haven't used others
248. I prefer working by myself so that I figure out the problems for myself and gain the experience by doing so.
249. n/a
250. It works as well or better.
251. I haven't used any other systems
252. The only other system I used like this was in the EF 105 class.
253. I like the homework system much better than mastering physics.
254. not close to any system i've ever used.
255. It's very difficult to plug things into the note system and atleast with my physics experience I like to work things out on paper and go over it instead of only getting credit for the correct answer.
256. I'm a freshman But better than mastering chemistry
257. not a fan of online
258. N/A
259. The system works better than any other.

280. i like the 110 percent system
281. I have never used any other systems.
282. It has been very helpful as the homework was well-constructed and the spread of the homework was even and fair.
283. better than blackboard
285. alright
286. I like the EF system more than others I have used.
287. I've never used an online homework system before, but it was very effective.
288. It is alot better than the Mastering Chemistry system because it is less picky about your answers.
289. It is so much better than the one other website I used in Physics class in high school, Web Assign. This system was so much better than that site.
290. It was completely new to me and I liked it. I feel like it was easy to track what I have and have not done. Many of the problems were difficult, but it was extremely rewarding once it was figured out.
291. I like the online homework system. I appreciate the hints and discussion board. I also like the ability to get partial credit if I am not able to finish the homework by the 100% deadline.
292. I love the EF website. Much more intuitive and easy to use than blackboard. I hate having to use it for some of my other classes. I hope I never have to use their version of the online homework program.
293. I like this homework system MUCH better than Mastering physics and webassign.
294. It is really effective in making you get the answer eventually instead of giving up.
296. its the first time ive submitted online homework
297. It's similar to the online homework system used by the chemistry courses.
298. The system works extremely well by giving you instant feedback on whether or not you have the correct answer. The system also has a cleaner layout than most making it easier to use.
299. good, yet too much of work!
300. I have never used a system that checks answers, so I cannot compare. I do enjoy easily printed pdf files, though, which other classes offer.
301. This system was very easy to use.
302. i like it better
304. Relatively user friendly
305. N/A
306. a lot better
307. it was well organized and followed for the most part what was covered in lecture. It was definately long though, I spent several hours on each assignment
308. it's better
309. Different in that it grouped problems.
310. Much better
311. Good, the homework system is the best I've used at UT
312. The online is easy to you unlike other online homework systems I've seen.
313. Similar.
314. Never did any other online systems.
315. i like it better than mastering chemistry and webasign.
316. This is the first system I have really used for online homework. It was quite organized. I appreciated the fact that due dates would turn red when the deadline approached.
317. The EF has been the best so far.
318. it is pretty helpful
319. Less confusing, and I love the immediate feedback.
320. too much homework.
321. It was about the same
322. its better
323. i dunno
324. n/a
325. Much more user friendly.
326. It is very effective.
328. Don't really have anything else to compare it to.
329. There is no way of avoiding doing the homework and still pass so it forces students to do the homework and has immediate gratification for getting a right answer.
330. awesome
331. Seemed to be very effective and with very minor problems.
332. I liked it
333. It is the same.
334. N/A

General comments/suggestions for improving the system:
3. Make the hints more "hintful". I hate when I see one that says to look at the book because I shared with someone. Haha
4. Get the word out a little earlier about being able to post work so the professors can see it.
5. No suggestions
6. Maybe get more earlier hours for help sessions
8. It looks great.
9. I don't like being penalized for the wrong answer. There should be a 10 answer limit.
10. N/A
11. none
12. The homework system was pretty easy to use and it was nice to finish an assignment and immediately know your score.
13. Maybe include examples of problems in the hints.
14. Keep the early completion bonus.

16. Do not get rid of the 110% extra credit.

20. i think its good.
22. Everything is good as is.
23. Great the way it is currently set up.
24. Hints could be a little bit better, and less hints pointing to the textbook only.
25. Some of the homework problems were too hard, I wasted alot of time when I would get stuck on a particular problem.
26. Less of it!
27. it was fine
28. nothing i found everything to be running welll

64. none
65. Don't make such a large jump between lecture and homework
66. I love the hints, and how every so often, there would be a freebie question. I also loved how I would automatically know my score on the homework.
67. None.
69. I DO NOT LIKE HOW on the day before if we try a problem for extra credit and make a mistake and come back the next day we still get penalized with the same amount but to the next grading scale as if we made a small mistake of the day of 100%. This does not seem fair for those who do the work early and try to get help on the discussion board and those who do the work the day of a hundred can check the board and get a higher grade than those who tried it early.
71. Nothing wrong with it.
72. system is good as is
74. No
75. none
76. I would not change anything.
77. less homework

81. i hate homework
82. N/A
83. new ways for students to find hints if they are completely stuck
85. I think the system could use better hints.
86. Nothing, fairly good system already.
87. make a sort of system that reads your incorrect answer and gives a specific hint to that mistake
89. I have no other suggestions, it is a great system.
90. none
93. It's fine.
95. Nothing.
97. Maybe give hints other than see textbook example, because most that I know of do not have the textbook.
98. N/A
99. The system works and it was interesting and convenient to use
100. There is nothing that I can say to improve the system.
101. The announcements page was very helpful.
103. make homeworks easier
104. Nothing
105. n/a
106. none
107. I didn't enjoy how some of the hints they gave us told us to refer to a certain problem in the textbook, when they told us at the start of the year that we didn't have to have one.
108. I like having the HW due on Monday and Wednesday. However I did not like the double homeworks due on the same day. This took forever and I spent every Sunday working these homeworks and then the ones I couldn't get I would go to the study session and let Todd (The Best TA in Engineering Fundamentals) show me where I went wrong.
109. I like the fact that students can get extra credit for being proactive and working on it early.
110. No improvements
111. none
112. It's okay.
113. maybe try and use some other interface where students could upload problems and maybe let other students help them out

126. none
127. it was great
128. It did have a few times when it didn't work, but other than that everything was great!
131. No improvements need to be made.
132. the extra credit that was awarded for doing it early was very useful.
134. no comments
135. Having two lectures worth of homework due on one night is kinda hard to pull off.
138. Spread the homework out more.
139. None to mention.
140. None
141. none
143. N/a
144. The textbook hints didn't help at all since i didn't have a textbook, so maybe other hints besides that.
145. Sometimes it had a tendency to be a little buggy
146. The homework can be rough when it has material we hadn't really delved into, so it involved a lot of self-teaching.
149. More leniency for those who enter answers at midnight.
151. Problems more similar to ones that will be on a test.
153. N/A
154. Better hints on some problems.
158. none
159. nope.bat
160. Good stuff. Can't think of anything.
163. This homework was one of the most frustrating experiences, and I think it was DETRIMENTAL to my learning the material, rather than helpful. Homework problems were so convoluted that it was almost impossible to figure out whether one had actually grasped the concept that particular homework was about.

For instance, you could be working on a question about rotational motion, and get the wrong answer, because some units needed to be converted, and you had done that incorrectly. But, because the rotational motion was the *new* concept, one would become convinced that one was not grasping rotational motion, and an error was being done in that step, and so the problem would be done over and over and over again, until finally the missed units conversion was caught, and fixed. By that point, the stress level is high, the basic concept is completely lost, and nothing has been learned or properly retained. When you make problems so UNNECESSARILY complicated and complex, you are not teaching anything.

That is just one example, but so, so, so many of the homework problems this semester were something along those lines. Cramming too much *extra* material into a question not related to the concept you're supposedly trying to teach through the problem, requiring too many opportunities for errors, and thus, completely confusing students, to the point where nothing is grasped. If your own TAs can't handle the homework problems? Not a good sign.

I think you're really failing quite a number of students in this regard. Homework is supposed to be an opportunity to practice and learn the material, and because of the poor formatting of homework, no one is learning anything, and thus the low test scores.

Why can't you just make the homework something that follows the lectures and exams more closely? Why make it so difficult, unless you're intentionally trying to prevent people from grasping the material in order to create a "weeding out" type class. And if that really is the goal of this class, I'm hugely disappointed. People are paying thousands of dollars for their education, hundreds just for this course alone, and to purposefully create a course in which a good number will fail? For shame.
164. none
165. I thought it was very good. Update the hint icons to match the textbook because i got didnt find them a few times.
167. More hints, especially where only textbook hints are available.
169. It was really good!
171. n/a
173. any guess used on a 110% day does not count against the 100% day
175. none
177. I like how the discussion board is monitored a lot. I also liked how you could display your work to figure out what mistakes there might be.
178. after you punt a question, give an explanation on how to work it
181. Not having multiple windows open.
182. Present the data at the beginning of homework in a more clear manner.
184. dont touch it, i love it!
185. Carefully designed hints would allow for better comprehension of material.
186. None.
188. The due dates are strange. Why should there be multiple assignments due on the same day? Just extend the first assignment.
190. I like that you give multiple tries without taking away too many points
191. No punting.
192. None in particular
193. n/a
195. More helpful hints. Less hints that say to look in the book because, honestly, a majority of the kids in EF don't have a book.
197. Overall, very good system.
198. Making a printed version of the homework could be made easier, and would limit the amount of grunt work involved in recopying it to engineering paper.
199. It would be better if there weren't so many "hints" which required a text book.
200. The hints referencing examples from the book aften don't use the best possible examples.
201. I think that we should be able to check our variables to make sure they are right some how. You should have a drop down menu with all the variables we would use in that module and we select which one we wanna check.
202. fine
204. .
206. System worked well although some of the online homework was way too difficult because similar problems were not covered in class. I still have a few unanswered questions.
207. None
208. Maybe more hints not from the book.
209. The only problem with the online homework is that the hints would give textbook examples for help and i am sure like many i never purchased the textbook because it isn't needed for this coarse.
210. Maybe when we login there could be an immediate alert to tell a person that his/her homework, feedback form, etc. is due. also it could alert a student that they are running out of time on an offered extra credit assignment.
211. make questions not so difficult
212. Homework worked well, I think.
213. none
214. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TAKE OUT ALL THE HINTS THAT JUST SAY "TEXT BOOK EXAMPLE X-X" OR IF YOU DON'T TAKE THEM OUT ADD A MORE USEFUL ONE IN. NO ONE THAT I KNOW IN THIS CLASS ACTUALLY OWNS A TEXTBOOK.
216. N/A
217. Don't change anything.
218. There was a few times when someone I was working with could get a "correct" answer by working a problem the wrong way. This proved very confusing when working in a group, but would probably be hard to fix, and is very rare anyway.
219. online homework is a great idea, because you could work on it whenever and the grade would be immediately inputted
220. better hints, and more guided hints. Often, the feed back after submitting the wrong answer was telling me to do something, which I had already done correctly, which is really not helpful at all. And none of the hints should tell me to look in the book, it should detail what it's referencing.
221. Simplify.
222. do away with the 'punt' feature - why encourage NOT finding the solution?
223. different, but good.
226. Some homework problems need better hints.
228. maybe a you're close system where some kind of if statement could prompt you that you are within a domain
229. n/a
230. like the 110% if you get it done early
232. none
233. Keep it up.
234. On the hints in the homework also say the example in the new edition.
235. a lot of the hints had to do with the text book. It was annoying since I didn't purchase a text book.
237. Good enough as is.
238. No more text book hints, doesnt help if you dont have a text book..
240. it was hard, but it usually helped. but i never knew if my answer was close to correct, which it often was but i didn't know it because the system didn't let you know how close you were
242. Decrease the amount of homework problems!
243. somehow promote to work homework in groups via some incentive because it is very easy to fall behind if you're by yourself ex: module 4 for me
244. N/A
246. None
248. I live in the engineering community so any time I needed help, I had several people to help me. I believe it is a dissadvantage to anyone who is not on the engineering floor.

250. Hints shouldn't suggest to use the textbook, seeing as the textbook is optional.
253. na
254. extremely hard homework, especially without a text book.
255. More hw discussion. The recitation has little to no discussion involved. Ends up being lab work or rehashing out lecture material.
257. handouts are the way to go. maybe a pactet of homework given at the beginning of each section
258. N/A
259. The amount of homework and difficulty was terrible.
260. Don't give so many hints that tell the students to refer to problems in the text book if you make the textbook an optional thing to get.
261. Have less hints rely on the textbook.
262. N/A

265. None.
267. none
268. Nothing
271. More pizazz, better hints
274. I would recommend widening the parameters of the answers. Some of the homework problems I would use a different method than what the site has down and I would be off by a small fraction and still get it wrong. Over all for the shorter homework problems (that only required one equation or two) it was quite amaing.
275. N/A
276. it's fine.
279. everything worked great
280. better hints
281. Nothing needs to be improved.
282. No changes
283. its a great system; maybe have example videos for difficult questions
285. better disscusion board
286. Lots of homework, but interface was alright.
287. Offer an explaination if the problem is punted other than just the answer.
289. Keep up the great work.
290. I can't think of any way to improve it.
293. The homework at times was extremely hard to understand and took out a huge chunk of time. For example, my homework grades directly correlated with my Organic exam schedule. When exam time would come around EF homework could not be a priority. EF is not the only difficult class for many students. It is a lot to ask to expect us to complete that amount of homework, especially when most of the problems required at least an hour of work. The homework problems were never explained well in lecture or recitation.
294. none.
298. none.
299. tooo much of homeworksssss!
300. I have never had online homework that was impossible to print. I am accustomed to pdfs readily available. For EF151 HW, initiating a print job for every page would have taken an eon as well as wasted paper excessively. Initially, I manually captured screen shots, saved individual jpegs, and compiled the multiple files into a pdf to print. I also tried using MS Onenote to capture screenshots and create a pdf, which was more efficient. Both methods took ridiculous amounts of time. Surely there is a means of making the homework printer friendy.
301. Something that annoyed me was that some of the hints on the homework referred to pages in the textbook... which most of us did not buy. There might as well not be any hint for the majority of us.

General comments/suggestions for improving the discussion board:
2. I wish there was an equation writer or something on there. It was hard to write out the equation i was using and it was hard to see what others were using as well.
3. I didn't use it that much.
4. Its pretty helpful.
5. Loved the discussion board, helped a lot when I got stuck on a problem.

66. LOVED THIS. On every single problem almost, I used the discussion board and it was a HUGE help.
67. None
69. I find the discussion board very helpful and while i tried to do my work early it was of great assistance in helping me confirm or change my original thoughts to get the right answer.

79. I would consider possibly giving extra credit for students answering questions on the discussion board. The students who understand the problem dont go to the board because they have no need to, but those are the students who could most help the students with questions. It would also take a load off all the professors and TAs.
80. give more help when asked
81. it helped when i had no idea about homework
82. It saved me a lot.
83. advertise it more
86. The addition of subscripts would clear a lot of room.
87. answer sooner
89. Maybe allow it so that you can type the equations and specific symbols so it is easier to understand.
90. none
91. People looking over it more often would help.

95. It is very helpful.
96. If i had any questions they could be answered easily.
97. The discussion board has very helpful, especially on the later modules.
98. I would often refer to the board when I got really stuck but I found it to be uninformative.
99. It was very helpful with some of the homework problems
100. At times the help was not useful for the homework. It was hard at times to say what I needed help with exactly.

110. Very helpful and saved my life many times.
111. it helped me a lot
112. Excellent.
115. Great concept. However, a lot of students ask the same questions that have already been answered. That just tells me they don't want to do any work to find the answer. They want someone to do the work for them.
116. Monitor the board more often.
118. none
119. not really
120. None. Rarely used.
121. I looked at the discussion board alot, and it helped me with homework and overall questions i had regarding the class.

125. Allow students to view pictures others have submitted.
126. helped out a lot when i was doing my homework
127. nothing. it's great
128. It was very very useful when doing homework because I usually did the homework by myself. But when you made it available for professors to see the homework and then help them with it, it made it so that the discussion board didn't help as much.
131. I rarely employed the discussion board, so I cannot accurately give any suggestions for improvement.
132. sometimes took a little bit to respond but not your fault.
134. every helpful when stuck on a problem

146. Hit or miss, usually.
147. Allow an option for profs and TA's to post pictures/notes that are visible to everyone on the discussion board. It would allow professors and TA's to use sketches when answering questions.

192. Sectioning based on parts of question would make it easier to find the desired discussion.

195. It was a good place to find help when others couldn't help me.
197. Helped me many, many times when I did not know where to start on a problem.
198. It did not seem to be monitored very frequently, there were many questions without responses.
200. Encourage students to answer other students' questions, possibly offering small bits of extra credit for good suggestions (this would be very difficult to track however, so maybe forget the extra credit).
202. Definitely helped with my problems with the homeworks.
203. Was a great tool for when i was stuck.
204. Make it more accessible.
206. Organized by problem part.
207. Normally I wouldn't understand what people were talking about.
208. I used it a lot.
209. Helped alot
210. I didn't use the discussion board, but now im thinking maybe i should have.
211. rarely used it, but when i did it helped
212. The teachers seem to think that by actually teaching they are "giving away" the answers to the questions, so the discussion board consists of silly "hints" giving to people who are sincerely seeking instruction on things they do not understand. I cannot for the life of me understand why an avenue for further student instruction is bastardized in such a silly way.
213. none
214. Very very helpful. I got through many a problems soley on the discussion board. The only thing I would have liked to have seen would have been a way for me to view other peoples picture messaging as opposed to just the moderator.
216. Discussion board helped me get through multiple problems.
217. I didn't use it.
218. I used this all the time.
219. these were critical, but tended to only be useful after the homework had been due for 100%. most of the time the teacher responses were very vague and frustrating and did not help whatsoever, surprisingly enough it was the students who helped make the subject clear and understandable
222. don't bother with it unless you can devote a TA to manage it fairly nonstop between the hours of post lecture and 8pm-ish; 95% of the time I asked a question on the board it never received a response, and when I did it would be the following day--when I had moved on to the next homework set.
223. didn't ever post, but read other posts for help
226. I didn't start using it, until the last half of the semester.

253. Did not use.
254. On the times i used the discussion board, the answers i recieved were very curt; almost as if I had asked a "stupid" question. I turned to someone for help and felt like i was getting a slap on the wrist for it.

264. Occasionally was hard to figure out what was going on on the discussion board... The "Oh I figured it out, never mind," comment can be aggravating...
265. Helped out tremendously.
266. The discussion board needs to keep all conversations available. even when work is uploaded because it was making the discussion a personal thing and not something to help other students

269. The discussion board is a good way for students to ask questions, but I prefer asking questions in person so I can explain it better.

290. Very helpful, this saved me on many problems where I had no idea what direction to even go.
291. I love the discussion board. It has helped me many times.
292. It helped a lot when I was working by myself and couldn't figure out a problem.
293. The discussion board is the only way I made it through this class. I used it to study for exams and complete homeworks.
294. It helped a lot. Especially when other students put stuff on there.
296. if each subquestion (A,B,C,D,etc.) were separated on the board
298. none.
299. late response..sometime~
300. The discussion board has great potential. However, I found the assistance offered by EF staff often too vague to be of much help. The most useful responses were incidentally from Professors Schleter and Bennett. I feel that there should be a means to visibly tag user messages that provide inaccurate information. I noticed these several times, but the inaccuracies are not readily apparent unless you read the entire thread.
301. The ability to contact your professors for help on the homework so easily can sometimes be a lifesaver- as well as the ability to learn from another student's question for a professor.

311. I wish that we would have known about the drawing thing on the homework earlier. Also, on the discussion board, don't just put "Refer to Textbook" hints when most of the students haven't bought the textbook.
312. Discussion board is a great help.
314. I wish you could see the work and pictures that the students post for the proffs to see. I understand you don't want people cheating and getting answers, but their grade will reflect that in the end. Seems like it's more productive to let the cheaters fail out and maximize the amount of resources for the people who want to learn.
315. none
316. I appreciated that all discussions were available for everyone to see. I could often just look through discussions that others had posted to find help.
317. The discussion board saved me several times. I beleive it should be used as a last resort though instead of automatically going there.

186. If at all possible it would be helpful for it to last a little longer than 8 p.m. For instance I have a job after class and I couldn't get off til 5 and then I would have to skip dinner to get the most useful hours out of the help session and just one extra hour would have made such a difference.

212. I went to a "help" session. The instructor for the EF 151 course, as I understand, was going to be an hour late, which was unacceptable. A student instructor, however, was there. She was one of the rudest, angriest, and least helpful people I have ever met. She tried to "explain" (if you can call it that) the problem by pulling out her old homework notes and repeating, over and over, "you have to use tangential acceleration." Anytime I pressed her for more explanation, as I was having trouble understand the basic concepts, visually, in my mind, she became increasingly angry and frustrated, repeating her phrase louder and faster, so I left as it appeared she had little to no conceptual understanding of basic physics, herself.

214. I imagine you guys have a pretty good idea of which HW's are going to trip students up before they're assigned. The one Help Session I went to was on one of the more difficult HW's and I was a little disappointed with the student-to-instructor ratio (something like 2 instructors for around 20 lost kids). Although I got helped, I watched one kid hold up his hand for about 45 minutes (partly his fault too for not being proactive) before being helped.

Long story short, I think you guys could do a better job prepping for such HW's

291. Help sessions were helpful to me not necessarily because I got help from Alex, but mostly because I knew where to find other students working on the same homework if I got stuck.

There was a consistent problem at help sessions. Alex, who was supposed to be helping us with homework problems, instead would constantly try to engage students in conversations that had nothing to do with EF 151. For example, during one help session she kept asking one student for help with Spanish while he was trying to concentrate on his homework. Another student at that session had to keep reminding her that it was an engineering help session because he had to interrupt her conversation in order to get help. In the meantime, she was disturbing those of us who were trying to concentrate on our homework. This is only one example of a consistent pattern. She was very impatient with those who asked for help if they did not understand her the first time she tried to explain something. I sometimes felt sorry for the students who didn't get it the first time because of the way she handled them. She would also talk about other help session students when they weren't present at that time. This is not what I would have expected from a help session leader at the University of Tennessee.
292. Todd's help sessions really helped me to better understand the material and finish my homework.
